Biography

“Only those who cannot see one’s inner spirit are truly blind”
Ducis
She was named Ducis, in the hope that she would grow up to be a strong and mighty ruler, for even before she first opened her eyes those around her could already sense a powerful, leaderlike aura emanating from her. But when her eyes fluttered open, her parents’ hearts fell.

Her eyes were bright green, as expected, but were clouded over with a film the clan’s medics knew all too well. Even though her beige and golden colours were befitting a royal, the intricate patterns on her scales adding to her beauty, she couldn’t be one.

Because she was blind.

The medics tried everything they could to restore her vision, in the hopes light would shine into her world, but nothing they did seemed to work. Eventually they gave up, sighing and branding Ducis blind forever. Thus the poor Imperial spent her growing-up years confined to the medicine den, the distant laughs and shouts of the hatchlings who were healthy enough to play outside echoing into the medicine den, riding the gentle breeze that filtered through the walls of the den.

Her life seemed sad, but it was about to get even worse. Her breed was naturally huge in size, and it was not long before every movement she made put the herb stores in danger of being scattered all over the den and crushed under her blindly flailing paws. Additionally, being an Imperial (and a large one, at that) meant consuming a lot of food, too much for the clan who thought Ducis was a drain on resources.

————————————————————————————————————————

“Ducis, leave now. There’s one week’s worth of food strapped to your back. Now go and never come back.” She didn’t know who hissed those hateful words, but as she slowly lowered her head in sadness, she heard some more burning, hateful insults thrown at her.

“You’re disabled. Blind. Useless. This clan has no place for someone like you.”

With a tiny whimper, the young dragoness turned the other way, and slowly shuffled forward. A cloth covered her eyes, the gesture making it all the more painful, as it truly deemed her a blind dragon, condemned and sent away to die by her birth clan.

But then she knew at the same time, that she shouldn’t - couldn’t give up. She had a vague idea of where to go, from tales she had heard around camp, passing by like a whisper on the wind that skirled and howled outside on rainy days. The Light domain was where all Imperials came from, an amalgamation of flesh and blood from the Lightweaver herself. If there was anywhere Ducis would be welcomed, it would be there, at the Sunbeam Ruins, the realm of her ancestors.

Thus Ducis’ journey began, as she traversed the realm, struggling through everything life threw at her, enduring hunger, thirst and exhaustion. Through her travels, she honed her other four senses, to the point she could pinpoint something’s exact location by the sounds it made alone. She grew introverted, simply not used to voicing out her thoughts to anyone. After all, she had had no one to speak to in her whole entire life. She heard, but never spoke, only remaining politely silent.

After many moons of arduous travel, through many wrong turns and stumbling blocks, she finally struggled her way to the Sunbeam Ruins, where she coincidentally encountered a patrol from a nearby clan, the dragons of which had seen her aimlessly wandering around and decided to bring her back to their clan.

It wasn’t long before the previous leader died in battle, and attracted by her natural leaderlike charisma, the dragons in the clan unanimously chose her to be their new leader.

————————————————————————————————————————

Known as the Blind Queen, Ducis became renowned for her boundless courage. Charging into battle head-on, she did everything in her ability to help her clan, boldly fighting alongside her clanmates to claim another victory. No longer was she useless, but rather now an indispensable member of the clan where she finally found acceptance.
