Esoteric is a builder. A technician with the like to make things shoot bolts of lightning, or metal. These fine contraptions of his design have made hunting a little easier on the clan's hunters, and made trapping familiars a far easier task. If a little more bloody. After a few of the hunts began to go wrong, and Esoteric became fond of specifically mutilating prey and crippling them, the clan took away his rights to go and hunt with them. Angered by that, the fae remained in his little nest, always tinkering and refining his weapons. After he was banned from hunting, a mirror approached him. She admired his vicious tools, and offered a deal. Esoteric then made an underhanded deal with the clan's head pirate, BloodRose. When he weaseled his way out of the deal, the pirate captain was furious, and tried to attack him. Armed with his weapon, he scared her away. Esoteric was probably one of the only handful of dragons to escape her rage. 
A few moons after escaping BloodRose's first attack, she beset onto him again with steel claws gleaming. He barely escaped her attack then, suffering an injury to his flank that could have easily killed him. He managed to scratch at her eyes, making her back off with a yowl. He fled again, and was tended by their allied clan in the Sea of A Thousand Currents. After he was healed he set off, tinkering with his technology pieces as he went. Eventually he ran into a strange figure. A Pearlcatcher with eyes colder than ice. She claimed that she was looking for new blood for her crew. The Pearlcatcher, Esoteric had thought, had an actual crew. His hunter, BloodRose, would not dare attack a crew bigger than her two or three man team. So he applied, and was told to duel another for his right to become the crew's Gunner. Quote:
Swinging his massive body around, the Imperial grinned wide at the Fae who was but a speck in the field of brown of the ship's deck. Kou's ears perked as an annoying humming sound reached him. Growing louder and louder, the large dragon realized too late that the tiny Fae was the source of the noise. Another deafening bellow ripped from Kou's throat as the seemingly useless sword carried by Esoteric plunged into his eye socket.
A stream of blood ran down the side of his face, turning his scar scarlet in color. Temporarily blinded in one eye, Kou began to thrash in anger. He could feel the slashes from the Fae's sword all over his body. Esoteric's plan was to irritate the Imperial so much he was sent into a frenzy and hopefully knocked himself unconscious. The Fae used his smaller demeanor to avoid the slow swipes from Kou. There was a loud crack of splitting wood from above and Esoteric zoomed out from under the Imperial's belly to see what had happened. All of the gathered dragons watched as the large log that had previously been the mainmast fell, almost in slow motion, directly on top of Kou's head. The blow rendered the massive dragon unconscious and unable to fight. Esoteric put away his weapon, wiping away the blood splatter from his face and turned to the crowd with a grin. His eyes fell on the sapphire pools of ice that were Captain AnneBonny's. He swallowed hard as she studied the damage done to her beloved ship. " Well, looks like we have a Gunner. Though, the treasure it is going to take to fix our ship will come out of your first loot score. Agreed?" The Fae could say nothing, so he nodded hurriedly. The Captain broke into a wide grin and extended her paw to the smaller dragon, " Welcome aboard, Gunner Esoteric! I look forward to an interesting partnership. Let me show you to the crew's bunk area." The pair turned and with a smile of his own, the new Gunner and his Captain moved deeper into the ship he now called home. After years of assisting on Annebonny's crew, Esoteric was usurped from his position. It was not of the crew, but an enemy ship. His small stature made it easy to fling him off of the ship when the canon exploded, leaving him to cling to debris for days. His wings were waterlogged and he was too weak to try to fly, until he washed ashore on the Scarred Wasteland's beach, where a pair of dragons from the Hunting Party were fishing for their next meal. The two took him back with him, and they bestowed upon him a change scroll. He shifted from being a Fae into being a Mirror, now faster and stronger than before. Esoteric is much happier now in his new skin, but the fins and four eyes would take some getting used to. |
