Biography
Kasatochi
**************************************************
Kasatochi didn't fly so much, so often, these
days. The shinies across her scales had only ever
gotten more numerous. Over time, they began
solidifying joints in place and weighing down her
wings. The gems gleamed such a pure red that they
were perfect mirrors of her plague-born eyes.
"You have become lazy," said the imperial Fish,
whose opinion had not been requested.
Kasatochi grinned up at her. "Careful, Fishy. You
get too close, you might catch it."
Fish hissed. The sound of it echoed around in that
hideous mask she wore. Oddly, she drifted nearer.
"You are to come with me."
"Am I?"
"Yes." Fish flew a half-circle around Kasatochi.
A few snowdrifts were unsettled by the draft,
shaking loose and wide to reveal the ice below.
"I'll have to walk," Kasatochi warned.
"Very well."
Well. "Don't expect miracles."
It was a long walk, and Fish wasn't one for
conversation.
They stopped at a sheer drop. Fish glided down the
glaciated cliff, getting far enough away that she
looked all one color. Gray, dark.
Kasatochi peered after her. This wouldn't work,
this wouldn't work, this would not work. When she
flexed her wings, they merely stiffened in place.
There was no extending these bad boys, not
anymore. Kasatochi's sigh was long and ragged.
She was reluctant to tip forward, but she did it
anyway. Over the edge she went! She tucked her
contorted legs close to her belly as best she
could, twisted her tail for some kind of balance,
and skidded down.
Landing was less dramatic than she anticipated.
She hadn't left the ground, after all. Sure, her
eyes were watering from the wind she'd faced and
her breath was well and truly knocked out of her,
but it could be worse. She was sure she lost a few
shinies along the way, but that was no bother for
Kasatochi.
Fish flew over to her. Apparently, Kasatochi had
slid on past where Fish had been waiting.
"Ooooof." Kasatochi made more a show of standing
up than was really called for. Maybe Fish would
pity her plight, and go hunt her some rabbits or
something.
Fish said, "Let's go."
So much for that.
It was a cave that Fish had led her to. Small and
solid, deep inland. The sort of hollow that was
want to freeze over.
Kasatochi laughed at how Fish loitered next to it.
"Oh, no. I'm not going in there."
Fish settled on her feet. "You should."
"I am not." Kasatochi shook her head, still
chuckling to herself every couple of breaths.
"No, not a chance."
Steam-frost air puffed out from behind Fish's
mask. Who was the drama queen now?
Sprite, a small striped wildclaw, dropped down
from the ceiling of the cave. "Awwwww." She hopped
outside, all ruffled and grumpy. "You're no fun!
Do you know how long I've been waiting up
there?!"
"You guys have done this, like, five times."
Appearing out from dark spaces and shouting
RAWR to make you jump? It got old. It
wasn't funny even the first time. "You're terrible
at jokes. Both of you." Kasatochi was ready for a
nap now. "But I appreciate the gesture."
