Spessartine is the daughter of Chalcedony and Tourmaline, and was the second dragon born to carry the gift of The Ethereal Court. She gets along fantastically with her three 'sisters', working to protect the clan, as is their purpose since birth.

She was born in autumn, the first year that the gardeners managed to coax trees to grow up in the dragon-made oasis above the cave in which the clan lived before it's accidental destruction by Snastle. A fallen leaf was somehow carried all the way down the labyrinthine tunnels of the cave system, right into the lair where her egg lay nestled amongst those of her siblings. As the egg hatched, her parents watched the leaf land gently on her forehead. As her siblings squealed and rolled about, breaking free of the eggshells, she watched the leaf in curiosity. She smiled, and both she and the leaf began to float weightlessly above the nest and she swatted at the leaf with stumpy claws, playing and trying to catch it. Chalcedony and Tourmaline knew at once that their daughter held the Court’s gift, and called on Celestine to act as a sister to her, to help her understand her abilities. Her magical prowess is strong, but fluctuates cyclically, peaking in strength at the autumnal equinox.

Spessartine has always felt an affinity for the autumnal season, and for plants in general. She spends a lot of time in the garden, reading books under the trees. However, if she spends too much time in one place in the gardens, the plants begin to act as if it were autumn, trees dropping leaves and flowers retreating to bulbs once more.
