“Capiendum ventum, et equitare ad victoriam!”, Gatsby would always run his claws over the faded wording on his family’s crest, pondering what it meant. There was bound to be a relative located somewhere in the far reaches of Sorneith that would know the answer. There was just one problem to such a thing — that said family member is a traveler, he belongs to a family of travelers. His family was so ingrained in their voyaging ways that his parents dropped him off at the Sunbeam Ruins and left, never to be seen again. The only other relative he’s even encountered was his grandfather, and even he left after an hour of conversation. It was tough luck, being in his family.

Because of his bloodline’s nature, Gatsby took up cartography as a trade, taking commissions to sketch out maps for whatever reasons the client may desire. Most requests tended to be political maps, topography maps, or sometimes weather maps. Very rarely however, will he be commissioned to map out the frontier beyond Sorneith. Gatsby snickers on the inside while accepting such commissions. The frontier was nigh impossible to map, as well as possessing mirage-like qualities. An island seen one week may have vanished by the time another expedition sets out. Thus, all maps of the frontier are considered misleading.

Cartography also allowed him to travel in whatever way he chose. Gatsby generally lacked a deadline of any sort, and thus he primarily may his way about on foot. Such a method of travel also enabled him to exercise his knack for collecting trinkets. Of course, sometimes he had to send a few back to the clan whenever his load became too heavy for him to bear.

Whimsical yet sincere, Gatsby travels to the ends of the earth, his legacy etched into the maps he so skillfully draws out. When he returns home from traveling, the dragons of the clan usually bombard the unfortunate cartographer with questions. Gatsby takes the time to answer all questions except for one. What is that question one may ask?

“What are family gatherings like?”
