Biography

Shi Gao, or gypsum, is a Chinese herb in the category of "Clear Heat, Drain Fire" and is the coldest herb in the Materia Medica. It is Sweet, Acrid, and Very Cold, and enters the Lung and Stomach channels. Ideal dosage is between 15-60g, as minerals always have a higher dose. This herb has the following functions:
-Clears Heat/drains Fire
-Clears Heat from excess in Lungs
-Clears blazing Stomach Fire
-Treats Eczema, burns, ulcers
It is contraindicated in cases of Cold from Spleen/Stomach or fever.
