Biography

Vermouth
Extreme Zoologist
Crowned Roc
Darkened Eye Scar
White Lace Honeybee

Vermouth is far better-traveled than most of the rest of the clan; though born in Light, he has spent time in every element with the exception of Ice. Also unlike several of his clanmates, he is not actually banned from any of the elements he has lived in, and has often suggested that he might return to one or another of them eventually. He feels no particular obligation to Sparkspell. It is simply where he has currently chosen to hang his helmet, and he provides his services, such as they are, in exchange for room and board until he moves on.

The reason he has traveled so widely is his constant pursuit of his greatest love: all the wildlife of Sornieth, the more dangerous the better. He has trapped and studied and occasionally tamed beasts the rest of the clan has only heard of, and he has extensive notes on what he has learned. Not that he really needs them, as his memory is excellent and he has been known to repeat entire pages of information word for word, as long as it's on a subject that interests him. He keeps a number of small animals in his chambers, some in cages, some free-roaming, none of them creatures you'd want near your hatchlings. He says it provides security and shouldn't be a problem, but with some persuading he's been convinced to put a gate up to keep them in.

In general he is reserved and keeps his distance from the other dragons, but he'll regale you with tales of his adventures at the drop of a hat, and many of the details grow wilder with each retelling. Still, just as many of his stories are completely true, backed up by a number of alarming scars and a network of contacts stretching across the continent. He also has a small collection of very impressive skulls and somewhat less impressive feathers and pelts, mostly from creatures he tamed that just don't live as long as dragons. These he claims to keep for study purposes but it's clear there's sentiment involved as well; he has a terrible poker face.

He is more self-aware than many of Sparkspell's scientists when he comes to the dangers of his work, despite evidence to the contrary. The fact is that Vermouth simply doesn't care; he considers the potential loss of life or limb to be an acceptable risk undertaken to better study these creatures, many of which, after all, are difficult to observe safely. He wants to understand them far more than he wants to continue having skin. He also says he's trained himself out of experiencing fear entirely, but this is another claim that can be easily disproven by anyone with too much time on their hands.

Whether to maintain his image or because he genuinely likes them, or perhaps both, one cannot say, but Vermouth has a habit of eating live bees like candy. No one is sure where he's getting them from; there's no trace of them in his rooms, and he seems to produce them from nowhere, often midsentence. It's more than a little unnerving to watch him pop one in his mouth without breaking eye contact. Perhaps it is a ploy to keep others from talking to him so much.
