Ignis

PB Ignis (latin – ‘fire’)

Clan Role – One of the clan’s best warriors, member of Ramsay’s Combat Squad and with Khazad make up the permanent members of the Raiding Squad (for plundering treasure and resources from the wild regions and creatures of Sorneith) and the Advanced Combat Training Squad (for completing hatchling combat training before they are sent to the Flamecaller’s army).

Mate – Eriador. Like most dragons in the SaF clan, Ignis’ mates have been chosen by the clan’s ruler Morgul. However as Ignis lives for fighting, and is largely unconcerned with having a mate or family, this has not impacted much on his happiness within the clan. He initially was mated to Penny, one of the high ranking dragons in the clan, however his violent plague upbringing was a bad match for Penny, who is natureborn. This did not matter to Ignis, but Penny was extremely unhappy and as she is so well loved in the clan Morgul was forced to split the pair after only one clutch to prevent widespread discontent in the clanholm. Ignis was mateless for a time after this, until Morgul’s own daughter Belfalas produced a beautiful hatchling with Ramsay, the clan’s Battle Commander and Ignis’ own Combat Captain. Eriador, raised by two great warrior parents, idolises all great fighters and as Ignis is one of the best brawlers the clan has, Morgul quickly saw the potential for a good match between the two. Eraidor herself is not overly skilled at fighting; however she has found her place accompanying Ignis and the Raiding Squad as a Battle Hoarder, harvesting all the food and valuables from fallen enemies. As she has front row seats to watch Ignis fight the monsters of Sornieth, Eraidor worships him and he greatly enjoys the attention and admiration she lavishes on him, while also relishing having a young, beautiful dragoness as his lover.

Family – None of Ignis’ children to date have remained in the clan, all have trained to serve the Flamecaller, often by Ignis himself as he is one of the Advanced Combat Training Squad. Ignis has no wish for a family, his life is consumed by brawling, and the only reason he is agreeable to even having a mate is it makes satisfying his lustful tendencies simpler.

Bio – Ignis came to the SaF clan at an early age. He was part of a trade agreement with a Plague Clan who has long since perished, their vicious natures finally destroying their clan from the inside. While a whole clan of such dragons proved unsustainable, Morgul noted their fantastic fighting abilities and so went to great pains to arrange a trade agreement for one of their hatchlings. Ignis grew into an incredibly strong fighter, and this coupled with Achilles’ excellent training and the ferocity that comes from being plagueborn has led him to become one of the clan’s best warriors, second only to Khazad. He lives for fighting, and revels in it whether he is fighting in his Battle Squad against dragons and monsters or simply brawling with other SaF fighters in the clanholm to let off steam. His life and desires are simple and focused around physical pleasures, fighting lots, eating well and enjoying the pleasures of having a young, beautiful, adoring mate. He has no time for thinking anything through or for planning things; he lives completely in the moment.
While his personality makes him a divisive figure in the clan, he nethertheless is an important feature of clan life. He is bound to two different squads which fight for different reasons. Firstly his Battle Squad, led by Ramsay, fights other draconian threats to the clan and Sornieth’s monsters for treasure, food and resources, He also takes part in the Advanced Combat Training Squad, the last stage of battle training for all the hatchlings the SaF clan produces before they are sent to serve the Flamecaller. Ignis’ belligerent, vicious nature can make it hard for Ramsay to effectively control his squad when fighting; however Ignis’ skill and strenght make up for this drawback of having him within the squad. In the Training Squad, these berserker rages are seen as a good thing, they are instructive for the hatchlings as they may encounter such things in the Flamecaller’s army and are effective at killing foes in raids.
Ignis has many friends in the SaF clan, as its population is dominated be aggressive fighters who have almost all been trained from hatching to value fighting skill above all else. He is something of a love/hate figure, dragons in the clan either love or despise him, usually depending on how much the individual values physical combat skills. All of the Lore Seekers and Masters avoid him, with the exception of Achilles, the Lore Master of Combat, who trained Ignis and has almost raised him since he came to the clan as a hatchling. He likes spending time with Ruth another Plagueborn dragons in the clan, and any dragon who lives to fight like Oriso, Leoni and Kamoharai, as they share his need to regularly brawl to amuse themselves. He has a special relationship to Darla, the brash Battle hoarder who, before Eraidor’s birth was the only one to accompany the Raiding Squad out into the wilds. The two are very close in their own way, and though they never had a clutch together it is widely known that they were lovers. However, with the birth of Fingolfin and Eriador, two royal line descendants, this all changed. Morgul paired the Darla with Fingolfin and Eriador with Ignis, and there have been no further dalliances between the two since. While impulsive, both dragons know better than to insult Morgul by being unfaithful to two of his descendants. They remain close friends though, sparring and throwing easy banter back and forth, much to Fingolfin’s dismay. Eriador idolises Ignis so much it is doubtful she would care if he did continue with Darla while being her mate, she would do anything to please him after all. But Ignis knows better than to tempt Morgul’s wrath, and thus the complicated situation works for almost all parties involved. Finally Ignis is the only dragon in the clan who shares some sort of comradeship with Khazad, the clan’s best fighter. This near silent, violent dragon keeps almost entirely to himself, but the sheer amount of time the two spend together fighting in Ramsay’s Battle Squad and the Training Squad mean that they have come to some sort of understanding and Ignis is the closet thing to a friend Khazad has.
