Tamika is the child of her old clan's rather unstable alchemist. Thanks to her father's dabbling in unknown magic, she was born with unique mental powers - she could read the minds of others and copy memories from their head to hers, as an extension of her natural amounts of empathy. Unfortunately Tamika found this out the hard way; as a child, a Shade-touched dragon brushed against her and she accidentally cloned some of the mental effects of their infection to herself as well. This further enhanced her mental abilities and had the minor physical effect of giving her Shade-touched patches of skin on some parts of her body, which are most visible on her neck and extremities. Originally she needed to touch someone to read their mind, but now she can simply look at her target to plant the virus. She can read and copy all of that particular dragon's memories until the infected dies or finds another mage to remove the connection. This power does have its downfalls, though, as she can have a hard time distinguishing between her own memories and those she's taken, and she dissociates often as a result.

Tamika realized quickly that she couldn't stay near her father forever or he'd figure out some way to use her powers to his advantage; she didn't even try to read his mind to confirm her fears, terrified of what she might find there. One night, she slipped away and traveled as far as she could, to Clan Venere. She informed her new matriarch of her abilities immediately, worried that if she didn't mention them now, others might find out later... in a way far more dangerous for her. After a long talk with Briseis, she agreed to become one of her spies in exchange for a magical circlet that could help her filter out mental noise more efficiently. Tamika now spends most of her time lingering on the fringes of other clans, trying to catch glimpses of information that may be useful to her leader.

She's fairly lonely, as a combination of being overwhelmed by others' minds and many dragons fearing her powers keeps her pretty isolated, since getting near her would mean trusting her with one's whole mind. All Tamika has ever wanted is a true friend... someone to trust her, to share her burden. Usually she finds herself talking to birds, as she can't read their thoughts and they're fairly decent at faking conversation. However, another spy in the clan, Flask, has taken note of her, and they're starting to get closer... perhaps this is the friendship Tamika had always wanted?
