I walk
Alone
In powdered white dunes
And I wonder
When the winds blow
(As they always must)
And leave me choking
On sand
Beached on dry land
On the cracked, dying ground
When I draw circles
Of arcane magic
Fine chalk on crystal desert
And flaking, decrepit dust
When the wooden floorboards
Buried underneath the blank canvas
Creak and shudder
Underneath the weight of my arm
Reaching for
Endless seas
A blend of hallucinogens
Will you sit by me?
As my hand moves
Beyond my control
Sketching out the form
Of a lilac
A compass
A face
Your face
As I stitch together
A quilt of bleached whale bone
And carcasses of time
As I drown
In the delicate magic
Of chalk.
