Unlike his parents, a dancer and a painter, Mauve never had an affinity for the arts. From the time when he was a young hatchling, he always wanted to learn, and the Sunbeam Ruins was a perfect place to fuel his desire. He would spend hours in libraries, absorbing facts about anything and everything with remarkable ease. Mauve was always particularly interested in healing and medicine. He had only ever seen traditional healers- Those who used magic to heal wounds and repair broken bones. However, even magic has its drawbacks. Healers can exhaust themselves. Healers can't look inside their patients to see the source of an ailment. Mauve had an idea for an improved type of healing... If one could combine Light's general wisdom, Lightning's technology, and Plague's knowledge of diseases and bacteria, what could be achieved? Armed with everything he had learned, he set out from his home near the Beacon of the Radiant Eye to begin working on his ideas.

His journey first brought him to the Shifting Expanse. There, he learned how to use tools and machinery, which was integral to his new type of healing. He didn't stay there for long, however. After that, he had to travel to the realm of the Plaguebringer herself, the Scarred Wasteland, to learn more about various diseases. He ran into Shanti, who brought him to Stahli, thinking he was an intruder. Once Mauve explained why he was there, however, the clan leader allowed him to stay and assigned him to work with Sapphira, the clan's healer. Sapphira does the majority of the healing, with Mauve acting as her assistant.

Mauve uses the informtion he gathered on his travels to create a title for himself: A surgeon. He uses tools he gets from either the Shifting Expanse or the Ashfall Waste to carefully cut into dragons and fix their internal injuries from the outside. He also works with various materials to create new medicines- Using this method, he's created a numbing agent that would make surgery much less painful. Although Mauve is extremely intelligent and knows more than almost every dragon in the clan, he's very socially awkward and clumsy. He's also startled easily- The constant lightning strikes in the Shifting Expanse were probably the reason he didn't stay there long. He often drops objects and knocks things over. In fact, the only time that his claws seem to be completely steady is when he's performing surgery on a dragon. Although Sapphira is called upon to treat more injuries, Mauve is still a relatively trustworthy doctor, even if he can't hold a conversation very well.
"It seems as if you have a fractured tibia. I'll get that set right away- Ah, whoops... There goes my new set of needles..."
