Skygge

Skygge was born in Jötunheimr and was raised in a bright and colourful section of the lair where hatchlings who would be sold, with the combined efforts of the Clan Sun Bear, were kept. Many came and went from this fast paced area, a vastly different place to the rest of Jötuneimr.

As he grew, he saw many come and go. Those who were there for a long time were sent to the Icewarden or to the Lightweaver, which was a great honour. Skygge realised that he hadn't been chosen by another clan, and felt depressed. If he was unworthy to join another clan, how could he be worthy of the honour of serving a deity?

His time approached to be trained then exalted, but the trainers found no trace of him. He had escaped to find another place he could belong. He stumbled in to the lair of a very small clan in the Tangled Wood. This small clan had dedicated itself to fighting the Beastclans, and more specifically, spirits and ghosts.

Incredibly skilled in both magical and sword combat, the clan elder decided to take charge of the young dragon. His training was long and hard and took many years. A few of the clans members fell in different battles over time, and others drifted apart until Skygge and the old master were the only ones who remained.

Skygge had grown more confident in the spirit-slaying ways, and had come to see the old master as more of a parental figure, but his old clan always loomed in his mind and no matter what he did he couldn't see it as anything but a failure.

The old master and Skygge would journey to many battlegrounds, and he would regale Skygge with tales of his hunts to tame one of the largest spirits in the Ghostlight Ruins, taming one being of the highest honours a spirit-slayer could gain.
Tradition in the spirit-slayer ways was that when one was too old to properly fight, they would go into the Ghostlight Ruins on a final mission, called the Long Lonesome Trail, and fight and kill as many beasts and spirits as he could. Skygge new he could do nothing and as he was trained to, solemnly accepted what was fate. The old master gave him a few things to think about before he left, and a task.

"Look at your past, see your present, think of your future. You're strong now, and worthy. You can do whatever you wish, but I think i've earned the right to offer you young whelp some advice. Go home. Return to Jötunheimr. You've changed your colours since then, but I doubt you've even noticed. And don't let those spirit ******** have my armour for long. Make some friends and whatever you find, it's yours. You've made me proud, whelp."

Skygge hadn't known the old master could speak that many words at a time, as he usually only said a few, but he decided there were more important things to think about. He watched him go, and decided that even if the old master was going a bit crazy, maybe some of what he said was true.

gtH9QgI.gif The guards at the immense gaping hole in the side of the jagged mountain that serves as the main entrance to Jötunheimr were wary of this unrecognizable Imperial, but he knew the names of a few of their members. His own parents took a few moments to recognize him, but this made sense as familial bonds weren't strong in this independently-minded community. They commented on his changed colours and welcomed him, but left him alone after that.

His acceptance back into the clan went of course with a catch, the same one offered to any that wanted to call Jötunheimr their home. Work comes first, personal goals are second. Skygge solemnly returns as often as he can to the Ghostlight ruins, with the help of a couple of other dragons, in search of pieces of his masters armor.

Aside from the dragons he hunts with, he has little interaction with the other members of Jötunheimr. He speaks with only a couple of words at a time, overwhelmed with the amount of social interaction that was found within the well populated Ice lair. He has carved a small room for himself, enough to sleep and store the armour he had found, living austerely as he had been raised.

When he eventually finds all the armour pieces he isn't sure what he will do, but he does admit that the cold ice walls found in the part of Jötunheimr resonate deeply with him and his Ice flight roots. He is almost at peace, but his mission lays in the back of his mind, the final task his master had ever given him.
