Kailani, usually just called Kai, was born and raised on a small, isolated island off the southern cost of the mainland. Though very appealing as a vacation destination, the island is otherwise limited to its own culture and small villages. Kai grew up with a culture that placed a strong emphasis on being outdoors and indulging in your own interests, whether they required social groups or independence. Despite his seemingly laid-back personality, Kai is not the stereotypical islander. Though he is accepting of most people, he is also quite serious. It was his drive and motivation to experience new things and people that lead him to leave the island as soon as he turned of age. Wanting a radical new experience, he decided to do what he could to gain entrance as a worker in the royal court. He, like many others, silently hoped to serve the princess. Of course, part of it was to live a life he didn't have a chance to experience on the island. He grew up in a community that wasn't particularly wealthy, and he knew that was the motivation of many to get into the castle. To him, though, it wasn't just about that. He, like others, grew up dreaming of working for her majesty. It was an incredibly prestigious job to directly serve a ruler that was so well-liked. He felt it would be such an honor for someone from his simple background to be in that position. He knew she had a soft heart, so perhaps his joining could change the lives of so many of his loved ones back home.
