Panellus was always the trickster of the family. The middle of three brothers might have been starved for attention if he were anyone else, but Panellus always managed to steal the show. As a hatchling, he hid behind rocks and walls and jumped at unsuspecting passersby. He stole items from unwary dragons and hid them, or placed them in tauntingly hard-to-reach places. He stuffed an old schoolteacher's office full of deity dolls one day, dumped a basket of burrs onto a somebody's fluffy wool apparel while it was drying in the sun that afternoon, and practically took over the clan every April Fool's day. And while his pranks were annoying, his jokes and good-natured chatting with everyone in the clan made him more entertaining than a nuisance.

When his father took a trip to the Tangled Wood to gather mushroom specimens for his genetics lab and visit a few family members, young Panellus tagged along eagerly. For every clan where they stopped along the way, he made up a new personality for himself and kept it up the whole time they were in each clan. He even remembered these characters on the way back to keep up the illusion. Between clans, he chatted to his father in fake accents and as countless different characters, including ones he couldn't pull off in the clans such as a grumpy old man or a snooty queen. His father, meanwhile, grinned and tried not to give him away when he walked into the one clan as a cantankerous gambler and entered the next one as a shy academic.

As an adolescent, Panellus left his clan with a traveling acting troupe, but returned after being kicked out of some clan for pickpocketing and flirting with the clan leader's mate (and subsequently being kicked out of the troupe). Upon his return he mostly went back to his old habits of haphazard practical jokes, but he also put on several plays with some of the younger dragons and the clan was largely impressed. He also learned to read audiences and dragons in general; and when he noticed an impending argument or a lone dragon brooding, he swooped in to defuse the situation with almost perfectly-designed distracting conversation.

The last his family and other clanmates heard, his new goal is to form his own company and travel around Sornieth entertaining the masses. With comedy, tragedy, trickery, and just enough respect to keep himself barely out of trouble, he set off on an adventure around Sornieth hoping to make everyone's life just a bit more interesting.
