Portrait by Voslen

Arlo is one of the kindest dragons you could possibly meet in the clan. Though shy and not very brave, Arlo does his best to be there for his clan mates. He views it as his duty to know any and every scrap of information that could possibly help his clan. He has vast knowledge of practically any topic you could think of. Mathematics, language, history, music, writing, archaeology you name Arlo can give you the run down. He's practically a living breathing library. He surrounds himself with scrolls and tomes most of the day and spends his time repairing ancient manuscripts and transposing information into a virtual library.

Deep in the bowels of the archives is Arlo's office. It's a modest space with a bed in one corner and several tables neatly stacked with various books and tools. But the really remarkable thing about Arlo's office is the digital archives. Arlo has spent his time transposing the physical works into the digital data base for years. A small rectangular screen is set in the wall is the only visible piece of the machine, and Arlo uses a built in keyboard to transfer the contents of his books into the data base. The system is of his own creation and runs on solar energy from hidden panels above the lair. His project means the world to him, because if there is absolutely anything the clan needs to know, and Arlo isn't around to help them, then they will need something to replace him.

History

Arlo was not clan born. He was born in the shadow lands to two proud parents. Life was simple, for most of Arlos early life it was just him and his parents. Arlo's happy memories stop there. One night as his family slept and Arlo was still barely near maturation, they were attacked. His father was killed in his sleep, but his mother woke and attempted to defend her son. She was quickly over whelmed by the ferocity of her attackers. Arlo was whisked away and his last memory of his parents were their lifeless bodies in the glow of the ever present mushrooms. Arlo was taken to somewhere in the Greatwyrm's Breach.

Once there Arlo was forced to dig for gems. A slave who's sole purpose was to dig for precious metals. He grew up under the constant cruelty of his captors. He knew very little of the outside world besides what little he remembered of his early childhood. He spent countless years in fear and depression. But one night, while his shift changed and he was being led to the den he was assigned, the tunnels trembled, the earth heaved and buckled. Arlo remembers it as if the Earthshaker himself saw the depravity and unleashed his holy wrath. Arlo remembered screaming and crying, but mostly the thunderous sound as the earth caved in around him. On instinct he followed the guards as they fled through the tunnels, he reached the surface just as the shaft he was in collapsed completely. The sunlight was blinding, he fell in a heap at the tunnel's entrance. He didn't move at all for the rest of that day, and the next three.

After the fourth day hunger and thirst drove Arlo to move, he wandered past the shattered plains, on into Viridian Labyrinth. Arlo struggled to survive, he had not known any world other than the mines for what felt like his whole life. He was distrustful and fearful of other dragons. He wondered far and wide, from the Sunbeam Ruins, to the Shifting Expanse. It was in the domain of the Storm Catcher he made his first real friend. She was an Imperial, beautiful as she was kind. She found Arlo, barely more than a wild creature himself. She took him under wing and taught him to read and write, taught him to hunt and the fish. She taught him kindness, and how to love another deeply and truly. Arlo took to it all quickly, soaking up knowledge he had been deprived of in all his years of slavery. He learned to trust other dragons, and how to love them.

For many years Arlo stayed with the Imperial, having fallen deeply in love with her. But tragedy reared it's head yet again. Arlo and the Imperial lived in a modest lair, small by most standards. And with only the two of them they were an easy target for beastclans. The Harpys struck without warning and with impossible numbers. Arlo's love was taken from him and he barely escaped with his life. This cut Arlo to the core, and he spent more time traversing Sorinth. He visited the Ashfall wastes, The Sea Of A Thousand Currents, The Southern Icefields, and finally landing in the windswept plateau.

It was while he wandered aimlessly through the plateau he met Bree. And Bree changed his life. Arlo had been sitting among the wind chimes and kites of the Mistral Jamboree when they met. A cheery amaranth tundra with an unhealthy obsession with churros and corgis. Arlo still couldn't say why the tundra picked him from the crowd, but suddenly Arlo couldn't find a moment alone. The tundra brought him along as if he knew Arlo all his life. And Arlo, having nowhere else to be or anything else to do, went along with him. Bree brought him to meet his friends and family, to his clan. And Arlo was simply taken in. Among them Arlo found he truly felt at piece, truly safe among them. And there was never again a moment of silence as long as his best friend Bree was there. He filled the space around them with laughter and mirth. Arlo suddenly knew he loved this tundra, with his whole heart. It wasn't the same love he had had for the Imperial. But it was love nonetheless. So Arlo swore an oath, the oath of a wing brother. And Arlo had never been happier.
