”Is that everybody?” Dameron asked. His bright tone always bugged Artoo. The Snapper blinked languidly at their passengers, some monster hunters bound for Cloudsong for some shopping. And Artoo remembered why he’d almost given up this whole “mechanic” thing. Artoo bobbed his head in answer all the same. “Looks like it, boss.” “Alright then.” With a single leap, Dameron jumped over the railing of the enormous gondola. He was very proud of it, the biggest balloon owned by only three dragons in all of Wind territory. They could even transport an Imperial. Dameron darted down the deck, his tail whipping expertly to keep his balance and at once avoid thwacking one of their passengers. Though, Artoo had to admit, that might add a little needed spice to the trip. In one smooth motion, Dameron climbed the railing and hooked his fingers around the rigging tying the balloon to the deck and called up the side of the balloon above. “Let her go, Astsromech!” His order was met with a whistle and flapping sounds, Dameron’s Spiral first mate agreeing with his order. Artoo played his part, thinking Dameron was a little cheery for a windy day. Artoo mustered a puff of Wind magic to set the balloon in the right direction as soon as it lifted off the grass. Dameron took stood beneath the middle balloon as it swelled as if taking in an enormous breath. Dameron’s wings flexed as he lifted the balloon and all twenty passengers into the sky. “What a balloon…” one of the passengers, a Mirror, marveled, watching the balloon’s kite tails lash in the wind. “Is it hard to fly it?” Dameron grinned, taking his full attention off his piloting… because he didn’t need his full attention. “Not for me. I can fly anything.” |

Dameron has been flying since he can remember, but he hasn’t been using his wings. Dameron was hatched on Cloudsong, the enormous city of balloons and kites flying high above the Steppes. Dameron had small wings that never quite seemed to grow with him, making it nearly impossible for him to fly on his own. His inborn Wind magic, small though it was, showed him immediately he was meant to fly; and he wasn’t about to let his small wings or insufficient magic keep him landbound. Living in Cloudsong, Dameron knew about balloon- and kite-flying from his earliest days and took to it as an alternative method of aviation. Someday, he’ll fly around the world. Astromech is Dameron’s closest friend and his mechanic. She doesn’t say a lot, due to a speech impediment and general embarrassment at her inability to communicate like other dragons. She gets by well with body language, anyway. Sometimes she throws wrenches. Dameron like to brag on her, calling her one-of-a-kind. With Astromech and her mate, Artoo, Dameron built a thriving business ferrying other flightless dragons from the ground to the floating Cloudsong, and even to distant lands should their pocketbooks permit. He likes to see these places and participate in races with whatever flying machines they have. For the time being, Dameron insists that he’s too ensconced in his work to concern himself with any relationships beyond those with his crew. Nevertheless, Astromech and Artoo are ever trying to set him up with almost any single dragon they see. It usually goes fine, since Dameron is clever, suave, and completely on to their tricks. Never was a dragon more attuned to Wind than Dameron. He loves to fly and he loves to explore. It might be said that there’s nowhere he’d rather be than anywhere. Though some places are, admittedly, not as pleasant, there’s something to learn everywhere. He likes to say you never know where you can find a friend… sometimes even in the most unlikely places. Sometimes he’s a bit of a conceited daredevil, but he usually lands on his feet. And true to Wind form, home is where his feet land. |

The orbs of unstable energy that appear near Dameron from time to time may or may not be sapient, however, he treats them as such. Simply showing up at Cloudsong one evening, they come and go at their leisure, appearing randomly whether Dameron needs them or not. Even though Dameron's element does not match any of the unlikely alliance of orbs, Dameron has a particular attachment to the Fire element that visits him, which he calls 'Finn.' In return for the kindling Dameron gives him to rest in, Finn sometimes offers extra power to Dameron's balloon, and convince his Earth and Arcane orb friends to help, too. |

When Dameron first met Astromech, he was in quite a bind. Stranded on Cloudsong with a bad motivator, he hired the first mechanic available to get him going again. Turned out, that mechanic was cheaper than her skills warranted all because she wasn’t all that good at talking. When she flew away, Dameron made a decision: he really should have a mechanic on retainer. After all, his balloons had a habit of breaking down when least convenient. Keeping them in sparkling good repair would be good for business, too. |

One thing Dameron didn’t count on was that one mechanic will almost invariably attract another. While Astromech is best with keeping the balloons in good repair, Artoo is not really best at anything. To his credit, he’s good at everything. He always seems to have a tool in his belt for every occasion, and he can even get by at a job he’s never even seen done before. A bit more adventurous than Astromech, and willing to try just about anything, Artoo always seems to show up just in the nick of time with some new weird thing. |
