NAME ORIGINS
Malaya is the Filipino term for "free".
CLAN ROLE
As the clan's oldest and most powerful babaylan, Malaya once lead the Divine Council as the Punong Babaylan, before she stepped down and allowed Makiling to take over. She is still part of the council and still mentors the younger babaylan and asog. Malaya is skilled in all forms of magic, but is especially skilled at divination and scrying.
BIOGRAPHY
Malaya is the oldest and wisest dragon in the lair, and was once a powerful warrior-mage in her time. She has since retired from a life of combat, and is content to share her wisdom as one of the clan's Divine Council members and as its designated Matchmaker. Many say that Malaya has the ability to foresee the future, but she herself will never reveal the nature of her matchmaking process. In fact, she discourages the clan's dragons from relying on her for advice on matters of the heart, stressing that the clan is completely free to choose whom to devote the rest of their lives to. The other dragons find it difficult to resist the temptation to seek her services, as almost all of the matches she has made thus far have worked out extremely well. Whenever asked if she ever used her unique abilities to pair herself with her mate, Malaya will merely roll her eyes and say that she didn't even need her powers to figure out he was meant to be hers. Malaya dislikes speaking of her past, saying that there's a good reason she left it behind. Recently, Malaya and Muyag's grandson arrived with his pregnant mate in tow. Malaya couldn't bear to turn the troubled couple away, but she remains wary, for she senses a growing darkness within her grandaughter-in-law's heart.
