______ When the sun disappeared behind the sea on the seventh day, a dragon appeared with the last rays of the dying sun shimmering between her wings and a corn snake wound around her neck. Her dark eyes bore into Cetus’ eyes and she moved in his direction with a dreamlike quality, the snake reaching down the the big cat welcoming her. The dragon's coloring complemented him, although more muted. Where Cetus’ reflected the sun, hers seemed to catch the rays of light, swallowing them down. Both dragons seemed to be drawn to each other, entwining their tails and staring at each other, their the cat sitting atop a wave nearby, the snake wound around it.

______ That was how the rest of the sanctuary found them hours later, completely still and seemingly at peace in the water, gazes locked on the pale moonlight. The cold light seemed to make the new dragon glow from within, softly pulsing while the water danced alongside her companion. And when her gaze caught Azul, a melodic voice rang out without her maw once opening, beautiful but sad at the same time, like a loving mother mourning her child.

______ They called her Aeslin, for her words always brought them the future, her eyes seeing things far in the future, often terrible and soon she took to covering them, wanting to enjoy the presence of her beloved without having her attention stolen by something fleeting. They tried to understand, and they tried listened and when the sea turned against itself, the clan watched from the cliffs surrounding their home or what would be left of it. But that day no dragon was lost, for Aeslin’s voice had rung out, clear and loud, hours before the storm had hit, eyes gazing at something far away and hidden from everyone else underneath the cover.

______ And on the shortest day of the year, Aeslin would dance. She would dance by the sea, dark eyes drawn by the pale light and her body would catch the waning moon between her wings, entrapping it like butterflies pinned on a board. She would move dreamily, spinning circles and wide gestures. She would be dressed like a queen greeting her court, thorny roses catching on her body without ever spilling any crimson. And when the sun rose to greet the sea, so would Aeslin be joined by her lover and greet him in the waves, two halves finally joined together.
