Satevis studies in the Roost, specializing in the dream magic which has always come so naturally to her. She finds that, when she concentrates, she can see into the minds of others. She can cure nightmares, force dreamless sleep, and even change the contents of dreams. To put it simply, her power has a lot of potential. With it, she can impact the mental state of any dragon she uses it on. Nobody wakes up at their best after a horrible nightmare.

Plague dragons are supposed to be ruthless, but Satevis has pledged never to use her gift to harm anybody. She has a big heart, gets concerned about what others think of her, and when she digs into the dreams of others without permission, she feels guilty about it. She knows a lot about the dragons around her just from what they dream about, and it's often difficult to keep secrets... secret.

h i s t o r y

Satevis joined the Roost when it was nothing but a strange star-cult, led by Alfawaris out of a corner of the Troupe of the North Wind. She was fascinated then, coming out of a Plague clan which had denied her magical talents when they weren't useful enough, to see magic held in reverence. While she eventually learned enough to understand that it isn't something to be worshipped, she still has a place in her heart reserved for the old sermons. They helped her to find who she wanted to be.

For some time, Satevis studied magic under Alfawaris, slowly gaining mastery of her natural affinity to dreamwork. She began, in time, to start to experiment with her abilities, to learn the extent of them, and her studies brought her to what she is today: a master of dreamwork, one of the only scholars in the world who understands how magical dreams truly are.

Dreamwalker

Satevis can walk in the dreams of others at will. It is more than just Skydancer empathy -- it is true influence over the realm of dreams. She can remove the dreams, make them worse, change them at will... and she still decides to make them better when she can.

Blessing of the Dreamer

Combining her skill in the manipulation of dreams with the innate empathy she has as a Skydancer, Satevis can judge what sort of dream will most help someone, and give that to them. It increases their morale, their memory, and helps them to sleep better.

Sign of Umbral Flow

The sign Satevis was born under is ruled by the element of Shadow, and may play a role in her talent for dreamwork. Dreams are heavily tied to obscurity, as is the Shadow element, and while Satevis may not be much in personality like a Shadow dragon, perhaps her magic was influenced by the stars she was born under.

Empathy

Often an afterthought, Satevis's empathy is rarely acknowledged as a particularly special thing. Still, she is the Roost's only Skydancer, and thus the only empath in the group, and that makes her ability to read the room interesting and useful. It helps her to never be on her toes among her family.

Satevis, as one of the leading scholars in dreamwork, believes that no dreamwalker should ever work without a Baku. Dreams are perilous places, easy for a dragon to get lost in, but a Baku has no such issue. They live on the edge of dreams and reality, walking just as comfortably in each, hunting for particular dreams to eat. If the dreamwalker gets stuck, the Baku can lead them out. If there is any danger, the Baku can warn them.

It makes a difference. Satevis has had her hide saved enough times by her familiar to believe in it.

Connections

Alfawaris

Alfawaris was Satevis's mentor, but now that she has graduated from her apprenticeship he is her close friend. She respects his magical knowledge greatly, and knows that she can always come to him if she needs to consult someone on her magic. Alfawaris took Satevis in when she was a young Plagueling ousted from her clan, and he made her into a dreamwalker so powerful she can change the dreams of the whole Roost.

Hinan'thel

For a short time before Satevis's graduation, the two of them studied under Alfawaris together. Hinan'thel is a bit difficult to understand, but Satevis knows that he would be friendly if he had the energy for it. She knows all his secrets, a fact which she feels vaguely guilty about; he never shared them with her, after all, and she can't forget them.

He knows she knows, and it's a little bit awkward. They don't talk about it.
