Pestilence comes into the clan every few months, a crowd of birds, skeletal and dark crowded across his back, always. He preaches reverence and service to a god; but not those of the living, constantly warring behemoths that created all of them, no. The Shade is a much better master, he promises, if only you pay it its well earned dues. No one is certain if he is shade-touched, or not- but of the shade-touched, he sermons often, speaking of their gifts, of the great rewards The Shade gives them in exchange for whatever was traded before their birth. Those who have lost a voice, or eyes, or whatever their master has decreed have gained something better, he assures in silky tones. Viscerate lets the preacher do as he pleases; after all, if Plague devote can be led away by talk, they were never loyal at all. |
