The head of a wolf peeks out from behind the sloping hills, with turquoise feathers and an outrageously large, tapered witch’s hat rested atop. You see the fangs first, sharp and glinting in the sunlight, but no wolf’s body emerges from the grasses. This is the slinking figure of a skydancer, lips curled in a grin beneath the grey wolf’s pelt, and her wings unfurl on a moment’s notice before she lunges.

Every kill is the same, remarks Taifu. Slow, boring, a hunter’s approach. Celeste tells her to ditch the outfit - what? A lady can’t dress pretty just because she kills?

Taifu doesn’t remember where she was born. Perhaps in a clutch similar to the ones perched amidst the bamboo on the windy plains, perhaps on the moon for all she cares. Besides, she doesn’t need family, Taifu insists, a blatant lie that becomes more and more apparent the more she works for Celeste and the rest of the crew. Supposedly, it comes with a change of pace - she is slowly losing her assassin roots; she’s lost the thrill of the hunt as she waits behind enemy borders. It must be her recruitment as a soldier under the leadership of Reina that has turned her soft....

Is it what Taifu always wanted? Not even she knows - but at least she gets to keep the outfit.
