From the very beginning of the clans existence it was decided that the firstborn son of the leaders would serve a greater purpose. Ezreal was the second-born son.
His brother Xeal was treated with great respect right after they were born and would immediately start an extensive education under various members of the clan - to guarantee he'd be properly prepared for the great honour of serving under the Windsinger.
Ezreal himself received some gifts as compensation (a primary, secondary and tertiary gene), but he couldn't help but be a little envious of his brother.
Ezreals mother Yii comforted him as best as she could. She advised him to find some things he really loves doing, for he had the freedom to hold his whole future in his own claws - in contrast to Xeal, who had no opportunity to choose his own life path.
So Ezreal was included in many different (but save) activities like gathering food or cooking. One day, while he was helping to dig for precious items, he found a pretty porcelain jar, which he thought was beautiful. Excited, he spent the rest of the day digging up stuff and he was impressed by everything the ground had to offer.
As an adult, Ezreal was soon deployed at the most important digging locations and keeps an eye over everything that the other workers unearth.
He might sneak some of the shiniest items to his mother Yii, though, since she was the one who always encouraged him to find his own way.
