When Opal woke up she was alone, confused and scared. Her surroundings were barren and devoid of any live. Everything she saw was dead, much to her demay, and the air was filled with the crackle of electricity and the roaring of thunder. Opal tried to remember. Remember anything, her past, her identity, how she got to this place and what it was even. Why she was alone? She spend the first days just stumbling around, feeling weak and confused. Everything was a daze. All she could remember was her name, Opal probably. Her past remained unknown to her, all that ever filled her mind if she tried to remember anything was a flash of light.
When she was so weak that there was almost no way for her to survive any longer without ever having found any other living beeing she met a Ridgeback. The other dragon seemed surprised to see her but was pretty willing to help her out of her misery. He took her to his clan who had his home near the lightning farm, finally showing her where she was. The Ridgeback furthermore explained her that she was in the shifting expanse, territory of the stormcatcher.
When she was finally back at the clan, who welcomed her with at least neutral behavior, she took some days before she was finally healthy again. According to the clans healer she was close to death when she had been found.
The Ridgeback that had saved her listened to her story, the memory loss puzzling him as much as her. Though he did state that it was unlikely that she had been in the Carrion Canyon on her own and that something ought to have happened to her. She did explain to him that she felt something was lost to her, something she was missing. She continued that it was probably her clan that she had lost in whatever way. The Ridgeback tried to ask the neighbouring clans if they knew about Opal or any other clan she might belong to, but without any results.
She did remain in the clan for some time, learning about their customs and the dragons living there. Though while she started to feel at home there the feeling of something missing was growing inside her, making her more and more anxious. While she had no idea what she was even looking for she started to scour the Carrion Canyon for any signs of it or her identity.
It was another few weeks later whan she said she could not stay any longer. She was positive it was important, maybe even vital, to her to find whatever she was looking for and that she would not find it here. Therefore she thanked the clan that tok her in so graciously but she decided to set out. A few dragons accompanied her for a bit, the Ridgeback who found her staying until she had reached the boundaries of the Shifting Expanse. Only there did she leave him, insisting that she had to go further.

Her travels where long, hard and lonely. She explored parts of The Sea of a Thousand Currents and big parts of The Ashfall Waste, meeting many dragons who she talked to. With some she stayed for some days or even weeks, forged friendships and alliances on her way. Many promised to keep a lookout for signs of her original clan, though no one seemed to know anything. Several offered her a place to stay but the restless feeling in her very soul was too strong to allow that. Time after time she explained that she felt like she was missing something and that it just had to be out there. Like a part of her very soul missing.

It was in The Windswept Plateau, somewhere on the Reedcleft Ascent, that she found herself standing before another dragon all of a sudden. It was another Nocturne, his body shimmering like silver in the sun, his wings and belly black as the night. Though as she was looking into his eyes it suddenly hit her. For a moment the two looked at each other in silence, before both spoke at the same time. Three word were uttered by both, the same words. "You are... me."
It was that second when the two realised what had been missing from them. They realised that they belonged to each other, that they had once shared one body and now stood before each other.
They understood each other instantly, the other Nocturne introducing himself as Acanthite. Though he was just as lost as she was, telling her that he found himsef in the Southern Icefield and had the same feeling she had had. So he set out to find what he was missing and finally found her. Though none of them knew what had happened prior and how they could have been one exactly.

They searched the land for hints, any clues or anyone that could know what had happened. When they finally reached the tangled woods they had been nearly in every corner of the world without gaining any clue. They were exhausted and had actually grown accustomed to the way they were now.
When they entered the territory of the Clan of the Onyx Heart they told their story to Veiled, told him about the feeling of being one entity divided into two bodys somehow. The more curious minds of the clan vouched for them to stay, and Veiled agreed.
Now the two are in the clan, always within close reach of each other. Some of the clans members are agitated when around them because they do act as one and always talk together, using the same voice. When you meet one supposedly on their own the other half is never far. While they are like one dragon some see distinct differences. So Opal is said to be more emotional and compassionate then Acanthite, having more of a soft heart.
