No one is quite sure where the old snapper came from, or even if she came from a land as we know it.
One day as Oberon fed the fire he merely noticed the kind old ember placidly smiling at him. Despite his alarm the crackling flames seemed not to bother the female, who quietly waited for him to feed the fire before going back to her slumber.

There are rumors of the existence of such creatures inside the lava rivers that flow through the domain of the Flamecaller. Such dragons are said to be made of the fire they inhabit, and are neither burned nor hurt by touching their homes. Rather, their bodies themselves seem to feed the flames, and in turn to be animated by them.
While new Embers are energetic and lively, as they grow old they grow dull, the life being burnt out of them until at last they return to the ashes they sprang from.

Vesta is such an Ember, drawn to the clan’s forge as it worked more and more to create the blacksmith and artisans’ crafts. As life was given to the fruits for their work, the fire demanded a guardian to keep it alive and strong. And so the old Ember found herself inhabiting the forge.
Never leaving, for she is needed where the fire is.
Never speaking, for her voice is the cackling of the flames.
She merely watches as life goes on all around her, smiling peacefully as the coals glow around her, and ever so slowly her inner fire goes out.
