Caris came to the Smokeveils from Lady Rowyn’s clan, drawn by the reputation of the Jungle Bird tundras’ performances. Born not long after the devastating Plague attack on her birth clan’s home, she wanted to move to somewhere less marked by memories of tragedy, somewhere she could laugh and sing and separate herself completely from the past. Somewhere green, where the red of her own pelt and wings would inspire thoughts of lush jungle flowers rather than the blood of the lost. Caris now thrives among the Jungle Birds, delighting in the rush of performing, the magic of the stage. She sings well, acts with verve, and dances lightly on quick, skillful feet, but although she’s capable of a large repertoire of styles, her unquestionable favorite—and the one she gravitates toward at any opportunity—leans strongly toward the burlesque. She and Chianta often team up for a rather suggestive—dare one say raunchy—pair routine, usually with Lios acting as their straight dragon. Though Ikaroa thinks this brand of entertainment is crude and artistically lacking, he can’t deny that it’s popular, and so he grudgingly makes space for it. Speaking of the Jungle Birds’ meister, he’s made some not terribly subtle insinuations that they would make a good nesting pair. So far she’s strung him along with flirtatious teasing—she’s not entirely unwilling, as he is quite handsome, but she knows enough to be aware that he can be very controlling, and that he can be a cold and rather awful mate and father when disappointed. She’s less worried about herself, though, than about Tessli, who she thinks is funny and geeky-cute and completely clueless about relationships, and who is likely to be Ikaroa’s next-in-line, unless he brings in someone from outside the clan. She’s not quite ready to throw herself on the sword blade for Tessli, but if things came down to it, it’s not that big a deal for her, and she’d probably just shrug and hit the nest. Facts – Despite her desire to separate herself from her birth clan, she does maintain correspondence with some members. In fact, having found the Smokeveils such a fun and pleasant place to live, when she that heard her half-brother Chirante was looking for a new home, she wrangled him an invitation. – Caris loves a party, and she and Bean are unquestionably the most likely to end up flying loops through the trees—or, more accurately, drunkenly rebounding off them and giggling—by the end of the night. (Of course, that’s if they’re not falling into the river or trying to decorate everyone’s familiars.) – She hasn't quite settled on other fields of expertise aside from performing. Fictions — Familiar Her harlequin stagwing, Marcel, has an equally theatrical personality, although he tends to be more of a diva.
