Rubydium

Many years ago, Rubydium found her charge; a stick. At least, everyone jokes about what it is. Laced with precious metals, adorned with an obsidian point, the weathered redwood that formed the shaft is bound with old leather. The spear was kept preserved on an ancient alter that resides in a cave, adjacent to the local ruins. Almost naturally, she made the cave her home. Next to her charge, close to the coast, next to ruins to explore, abundant fishing and hunting spots, it's better than she could have hoped for. Unfortunately, many others thought the same thing. Slowly, it also became home to a diverse group of dragons. Warriors, scholars, merchants, travelers, excavators, hunters, scavengers, artist, even a life insurance agent-and everything in between. Some happened upon the cave, and what was soon a clan, by chance. Others met the clan members on their travels, and for better or for worse, they joined the tight-collective, yet diverse group of friends and allies.

Since the beginning of the clan, no one really knew what to call it. Everyone had called it "Clan Rubydium", after it's founder.

Rubydium is fond of many things, such as traveling, flying, fighting- but she certainly was never keen on the clan name. Due to the diverse nature of her clan, no one could come up with a fitting name- none the less decide on one. For a great while, the clan was simply known as "Rubydium's Clan", "Clan Rubydium", and even as a joke: "Cave Stick Clan". The clan needed a name.

During clan meetings, the discussion regularly emerges: "Should we have a proper name?" Normally, the can members debate feverishly on the best name. Names such as "Illuminated Path", "Rising Hope", "Archaic Analysis", and "Dawn of Light" emerged from the discussion; but no dragon was ever able to agree.

One of the wisest of the clan members, also the clan advisor, Claudius, suggested a few dragons should be selected by the clan, and they would debate on a name. However, as per usual, everyone ignored him. Gale and a few others suggested a fair vote- however, no one name received the majority vote.

It wasn't until Rubydium decided only one dragon may pick the clan name, that a name was ever settled on.

In the fateful meeting, Rubydium declared a randomly selected clan mate will be chosen to name the clan. As fate had it, it was Helay.

Away from the heated discussion, Helay was busy tending to the familiars. Playing with a new addition to the clan, a Banded Owlcat. She was deciding on a suitable name to give him.

Playing around with names, skipping out on heated clan debates, she had no idea what was going on, or that she was selected to name the clan.

"Sausage! Sausage The O-W-L CAT! You're going to have a good home here." Helay teased. The newly named Sausage knew he was doomed in some way. Who the heck names an owlcat "sausage" anyways.

The cave walls began to quiver. A loud thumping noise was rapidly approaching Helay and the owlcat Rubydium furiously barged into the room, both angered at the inability for the clan to have a proper name, and out of excitement that the clan will have a name. Helay backed up in terror and Sausage leaped up in shock when he heard the guardian's mighty boom: "AND, WHAT NAME DO YOU PICK, SO WE CAN MOVE ON FROM THIS ETERNAL DEBATE?!"

"WHat?! What are you talk-"

"THE NAME!" Rubydium roared.

"Uh, Nam- NAME!" In shock and fear, she struggled to get the words out, jumbling them accidentally.

"Saus-sage oWL?" Helay peeped.

Clan Rubydium has been known as Clan SausageOwl ever since.

Sausage the owlcat slipped out in the mass of confusion that followed, and ran away from the madness.
