A once adventurous young man, Rue is now a much quieter version of his former self. He struggles a great deal of pain in the aftermath of a possession that left many of the citizens of the Empire his family is meant to protect dead. He cannot forgive himself for not being strong enough to stop what was happening, to break free. The fact that none of his family members would have fared any better is no comfort.

Rue was born The Forth Born child of Sparks, The Empress of the Sky Spire Clan. At a time when many of his siblings were being shuffled into neatly arranged marriages to help secure the Empire's future, Rue packed his bags and took off for sights unknown. He traveled all eleven regions over, eventually meeting Kaiden, his Protector, and dragging him along as well. He loved nearly every minute of his journeys, even the long slogging treks and the bugs. It was worth it, to see so much of the world he loved.

Well, really, it was worth it until it wasn't. Until he decided to return to the Starfall Isles and explore their mountainous peaks. Until he stumbled upon an ancient creature of stone and magic, and was infected by it. Thereafter, Rue was not alone in his own mind. An arcane spirit had taken up residence, and over time it overpowered him. It was not easy; Rue was a proud young man, and he fought his curse with tooth and nail. But the spirit was able to erode at Rue's strength, erode at the young man's sense of self, until Rue's own will was completely overshadowed by the Spirit's, and it seemed almost right that the spirit use his body to achieve its goals.

Although now freed of his possession, shadows of it remain. Rue has chosen to once again leave the Starfall Isles and his family, to travel to a Hold he'd never heard of before a desperate letter, and meet a man he's never met who will be his husband. It seems only right to Rue that he pick up the life that was originally planned for him. Maybe, if he does, things will go right this time.

Kaiden: Rue's Protector and dear friend. Kaiden's support has been priceless to the young man. He's one of the few people Rue doesn't want to get away from, and Rue is grateful that Kaiden will be coming with him on this next journey.

Dagnar: Rue's betrothed. He'd never heard of Dagnar's home until the Sky Spire's trade minister received a letter from the man asking for help securing an alliance, to be sealed with a marriage of their two clans. Rue seized on as a possibility to finally do some good for someone and get out of the Sky Spire.

Although he refused to admit it, Rue was terribly anxious about the whole 'having a husband' thing. He's warmed to the idea, and to his husband, considerably since moving to the Southern Hold.

Ulva: the actual leader of the Southern Isles Hold, and Rue's sister-in-law. He holds her in great respect, although he worries that she carries too much on her shoulders.
