Biography
I curled up, trying to condense my already slender frame into itself to create a blackhole. I wanted my current emotional state to reflect my surroundings. I don’t know how this surprised her. I don’t exactly disprove any stereotypes.
I couldn’t just stay here, it would be virtually suicidal. I meticulously uncurled myself from the position I was sitting in. I stood up from the bed I would never sleep in again, and grabbed my purple backpack. My shaking hands opened my drawer, grabbing all the clothes I thought I would need. I dug below the socks to get to the task of all of the money I had saved up. After cramming some other very necessary belongings into smaller pockets, i.e. my phone charger and a few of my favorite paperbacks, I zipped it up. I slid on a thick, light green hoodie and my least worn pair sneakers. Before I fully resolved to leave, I pressed my ear against the locked door to only hear yelling on the other side. I scribbled a note saying basically I couldn’t deal with this anymore, that I needed to leave and be somewhere where I could safely be me. Slinging the backpack over my shoulder, I unlocked and opened my window. I struggled with the screen before breaking it off. I didn’t care; I wasn’t returning here any time soon.
I swung my left leg out the window, glancing down towards the two story drop. I wasn’t worried about hurting myself. I snuck out this window plenty of times to visit my boyfriend late at night. I jumped down into the mulchy flower bed below.
As I walked away from the carcinogenic household disguised as a kind, inviting residence, I wondered where exactly would go. How I would finish high school and provide for myself. It didn’t matter, I resolved. I always found a way around any inconvenience, and that's all this was, just a mild bump in the road.
