______THE BURDEN OF FAMILY IS WITH HIM
And Baldr knew he would never be able to live up to such a legacy. He couldn't hope to even come close to it, barely skimming his claws over the possibility, and he loathed it. There was nothing but misery in such expectations for him and he knew it well, which was why he fled his homelands not long after being deemed a proper adult.
Baldr held no name, nor no fortune, but the world had been laid out at his feet and he was not one to shy away from the challenge of it.
He did, however, shy away from the other dragons of the realm. Easy to fluster and frequently tongue-tied over the smallest inconvenience, Baldr is not such a dragon that'll breeze through conversations during dinner or greeting a stranger. The thought of having to speak with others puts a knot in his throat that he struggles to shake, and he does not find much joy in idle chitchat.
He's too kind for his own good, sometimes, and is the first that'll get tricked out of his hard-earned money and the first to forgive the ones that tricked him in the first place.

S Ó L Though as different as night and day, Sól and Baldr get along swimmingly, and not only because of their shared love for all things alchemy and potioneering. Sól's chaotic energy lifts Baldr's sluggish self up just as Baldr's soothing nature calms Sól's explosive episodes. On most days, they're nigh on attached at the hip, and one will rarely see one without the other. And the few times one does, the other isn't far behind, anyway. |

S A D R Bonding over shared troubles with their parents, soon enough a friendship grew from their little chats and silent evening around the fire. Sadr's hard edges with nicely with Baldr's soft nature. It's not usual to find her curled up in his brewing chambers, tossing out idle ideas, or finding Baldr tagging along with her late-night wanderings or reasonably suspicious skulking about. |

A nigh on royal bloodline was a heavy burden to bear and one Baldr grew weary of quickly, the weight of it constantly on his shoulders, and he does his best to avoid speaking of his parents at all if he can help it. In fact, he's not one for speaking much about anything; shy, they call him, as Baldr is easy to fluster and frequently finds himself tongue-tied over the smallest inconvenience. Pedigree was the bane of Baldr's existence for a long time. Born to pure, first generation Imperial parents, he was burdened with expectation from his first breath. He was not the most handsome, but he was wanted-- for his parents and their status. They were fine dragons, important ones, and subject of awe for dragons all across Sornieth. The pressure of it quickly got to him and Baldr did not enjoy his first years, miserable but too afraid to speak up.
He thought his parents wouldn't understand, wouldn't approve, so he remained silent until he left; surely such glorious beings, thriving in the spotlight, would never be able to understand his need for unbridled solitude and privacy. In the end, he would never truly know, nor would he ever know if they even noticed his absence once he left them behind. Some days, he wondered if it would have hurt less to know they didn't care- would it have eased the strain of the expectations they'd so absently smothered him with? Would it even have mattered to them that he, to some degree, resented them for expecting him to be their perfect shadows? At night, he would toy with the thought of going back. Of telling them, straight out, how much he wished he would have been the son of anyone else. Yet the Shadowbinder soothes his anger, easing him back from that ledge, and reminds him to bide his time. Follow the shadows, let them show him the way- but never look back. There is nothing for him there.
