You would think the one with Joviality's Magnificent Circus of Aergate as her Charge would perhaps carry a little more charm and flair than your typical Guardian. And yet to the Ringmaster's constant bafflement, Maru seems to be stuck permanently in an unyielding state of deadpan silence, an individual that had fun once and never quite recovered from the ordeal. The many audiences will never know the terrible truth Maru must bear in quiet suffering, that behind all the animated personalities and enthralling talents is an out of control bunch of rowdy adult children, one she is forever forced to babysit and suffer the japes of in eternal agonizing torment . . . And that is Maru's take on humor. She really quite enjoys her strange family of performers, even amidst Joviality's abysmally persistent attempts in trying to get her to crack a smile. Getting to see so many famous lands across Sornieth, traveling with her longtime friend Opal and watching that one impulsive desire she'd had to put something wonderful together for the world become what it is today, it's all been nothing less than inspiring and rewarding beyond compare. And though she loathes to be in the spotlight, preferring to just do her job and wander around the circus grounds making sure none of the visitors are causing any trouble, she's not without her own talents. Heckle her enough over her lackluster performance as circus security, and Lyre and Chimea will suddenly pull out their instruments and start playing softly with smug grins of anticipation. To which Maru will reveal a most haunting but enchanting voice, singing a long crooning melody much to the shock and delight of her onlookers, before returning to her duties as if nothing ever occurred. |
