Biography
Born in the Sunbeam Ruins and separated from his parents at a young age, Auriel has stood as the guard of the modest Daybird Reign for most of his adult life. Although he regards himself a beacon of rationality and peace, there has always been conflict between Auriel and other members of the clan. He admired the leader, Miro, but did not admire the dragons Miro accepted into the clan.
His loyalty to his leader was, for a time, a devotion nearly on par with his pearl. Unfortunately, resentment for Miro built over time too. He was strongly opposed to how much unearned influence Mila had in the clan, and approached the leader often with this, but he was always brushed off. Eventually, another Pearlcatcher guard joined the clan. They became quick friends, but, once again, his jealousy consumed him and spoiled their bond.
Auriel has never left Light's territory, nor his clan. It wasn't until he acted on his feelings for Chanda, mate of a Coliseum trainer, that he realized what he must do. His daughter, Freja, was the evidence of this act. As he fled, he attempted to take the hatchling with him, but they were attacked by the Beastclans the first night. Auriel acted out of cowardice, fleeing the scene. He returned to find that Freja was alive, but her pearl had been cracked cracked and her wings damaged severely. Afraid that she would die if they continued further, Auriel brought her back to the clan. He stayed three nights with her and her mother. Then, overcome with guilt for what had happened to his daughter, he fled again.
