Biography

ATLAS
[ glade • lord ]

patron of lakes | grumpy, protective, proud

They call them the Titans: primordials whose essences are connected to the earth, to the lands of Sorneith without any touch of dragonkind. This has led many to believe the Titans were created together such as the wind primordials were or even the splitting of the Astronomer's heads, but any such tale is just a myth. In truth, the Titans were born independent of one another and named for their collective attributes far later by the gods' children; they did not create the lands they preside over, but invigorate them, maintaining Sorneith's natural ecosystem while the deities look elsewhere. Many of the Titans will travel between domains across the globe, visiting different mountain ranges or canyons or rivers in turn, though others have found themselves a permanent dwelling whose natural splendor they guard like nymphs. Only sometimes do the Titans gather, typically for matters of global importance. However as regal as they seem, they are just as inclined as mortals to become wrapped up in petty matters, particularly where the nature of their domains are not so clear cut.

Atlas has long been a fixture of the Worldend Wetlands where he dwells among the waters. In times past he traveled the earth, drawn by different great lakes among the domains of the gods. However there came a time when Atlas settled among the wetlands and never left. Though he will never admit it, the growing power of mortals has frightened him; they are capable of powerful inventions, magic, and wars now, and like a curmudgeon he has holed himself up in the Labyrinth, away from the swell of civilization. It was his home before anything else, long ago when the Tidelord's waters cut through the lush jungles of the Gladekeeper and he was born in their fresh springs. In those early times, the Tidelord bid him to nurture the bodies of water that lay far from the fingers of the sea — but contemporarily their communication has long since crumbled in lieu of greater perils, and Atlas has made himself comfortable in the place he feels most safe. Those who frequent the wetlands now know him more as a myth or the cryptid: the massive long dragon that can be seen in the foggiest mornings, draped in moss and leaving wet prints as he crawls across the grass.

It is primarily the other Titans who know Atlas for his true self: a powerful lord among Sorneith's surface who has lost faith in his own strength. His most frequent companion is the Glade Catcher, the Gladekeeper's most duteous tender of her rainforests and a playful sprite who tries to entice Atlas from his wetlands. He snaps at her but all for show, as his other company comes but in the winter to breathe the waters cold. Both fae are wise enough to know they are Atlas' family, and it's become their tradition to stay with him when the snow starts to fall. For mortals, it seems that the Worldend becomes warmer despite the frost, and many come to seek the snow blossoms that bloom only when the water freezes over.

Atlas' summon is Coeus the vivid wavehopper: a massive frog that lives among the wetlands and few even associate with the Glade Lord himself. Coeus has a uniquely bellowing croak that sounds just around midnight, colloquially making him a time keeper for nearby clans that sounds when the new day has begun.
