The jewellery box rattled. It bounced around on the table it had been sat on, and something could be heard amongst the necklaces and rings inside. It had been brought from a flash market, the seller stating that it was a very rare find, and had a surprise inside. The buyer, thinking that he just meant it had some sort of collection of pretties in there, took it home, and left it on their desk. But there was something wrong, perhaps that should have been looked into before purchasing.
A small gap formed between the lid and the tub of the box, and a little clawed hand tugged at the latch. It snapped open with a click, and a little flash of gold tumbled out. There was a moment where it composed itself, then looked around with golden eyes. A tiny spiral, glittering with yellow and little flecks of green, red, blue, purple. It turned back to sniff at the box, where there was a small nest of bracelets, necklaces, and other gleaming pieces of jewellery. It was like one of them had come alive, turning into a little dragon.
Perhaps it didn't think like a normal dragon, it's mind a little different, but when the buyer of the box walked in to find the package open, and a little spiral sprawled on the table below, they reacted with adoration. This little gem would be just fine.
