The Pariah

Chrysantho often feels like he doesn't quite fit in; partly because of his element and partly because he, quite literally, glows. It often keeps the other dragons in the lair up at night and results in a bit of crankiness in his direction. He's generally stoic and brave, but often times he does feel lonely. His mate Raeth was the first to warm to him, the brilliant warrior she was, and she didn't hesitate to defend him Although he was a little embarrassed that he needed to be defended in the first place, he merely loved her more.

And then their daughter Nina hatched.

He remembered how she looked up at him, how he was just as strong and brave and clever as her mother in her eyes. That was something he wanted to do his best to become, if only to earn that reverence. When Nina was afraid of the creatures in her nightmares and the darkness all around her, he told her only to look for his light, and he'd chase the monsters away.
So sometimes, not fitting in was a little uncomfortable-- but memories of his daughter with such adoration in her eyes, even through her fear, made it all just a little bit better.
