The haunting poem sent shivers down Ebrietas spine. So many of its words could relate to this day. The air was crisp, the breeze unforgiving, with her feathers so easily ruffled. Only one day a year could the poem could be recited, and every year it changed. Ebrietas had failed to understand the meaning as a hatchling, although now the knowledge was nothing but a screaming nightmare, unstoppable and relentless. Her mother had left Ebrietas as a hatchling, abandoned and lost in the twisting tree of spirits. That's when time became irrelevant and the spirits became family. They were not all dragons, some were strange beings that Ebrietas had never been introduced to in their living state, others were small animals. The strange beings looked similar to one another, their presence was easier detected and their spirits were easilier presented. Their eyes were hollow and whispy, carved out pits with endless voids of untouchable anger, unquenchable thirst, denied loneliness. Long dark whisps clung to the air where a dragons body would be, for them there was not a necessary shape to be taken, they were very...flexible with their material form. They referred to themselves as "the realm beings" a confusing name to which Ebrietas did not care much about, so long as the spirits were happy, or at the very least passive. They were the outlets. When Ebrietas had feelings she let them devour them, then there was just nothing. The realm beings always changed after each time she let them eat her emotions away, they always became more faded, less visible, all but one who never changed. |
