Jarek ranges far and wide searching for the rarer items in Sornieth. He is the one that healers like Birdsong may employ to acquire a special herb for healing or for research. He's always been a bit of a loner because his mimicry skills and inclinations are subpar, for a nocturne. Little does he know, that actually makes him more pleasant to be around. He's created a small, private lair within a giant reed just outside the keep. A small lantern by the door indicates whether he is out on an adventure or not.
He'll often purchase maps from Numair, as they're the finest he's come across in his travels and often beautifully decorated with colorful sketches of the sights of the land.

Spring's Breath
A Quest for the King

Jarek approached King Vakhtang's throne room with apprehension. He got along well enough with the clan's leader, for all that he was away most of the time. Even so, he was an intimidating figure and Jarek wondered what he might have done to raise his ire. Was it the icy butterflies that escaped Kita's room? It wasn't his fault they escaped, she should have gotten Viola's help when she created the spell to keep them in her lair. But Vakhtang may blame him for bringing such nuisances into the castle.
Deciding to tarry no longer, he entered the room. Vakhtang was coiled around his golden throne, somehow appearing lazy and restless at once. Jarek could sense his agitation and felt it root in himself as well. "How can I help you, sire?" It was a bit of a risk to skip over the greetings and other such formalities that the king normally observed, but Jarek had judged his mood correctly.
The king piled himself into an unhappy puddle at the base of his throne and spun a tale of something he'd lost long ago that held great meaning to him. It symbolized his ties to the Plaguelands and each Riot of Rot that passed reminded him that he'd lost this priceless thing while still a hatchling, before he found the fledgeling Wind clan. The festival was fast approaching and his melancholy was in full swing. He couldn't know how long it would take to find it and thus couldn't risk leaving the clan leaderless. Vakhtang needed Jarek to venture deep into the Plaguelands to find this valuable item from his birth clan.
Viola had already prepared a spell of constant fresh spring breezes that would circle around Jarek and protect him from the diseased drafts, along with a myriad of other protective potions. Clearly Vakhtang was counting on his not refusing the job. Jarek could find no reason to do so, and thus promised his king that he would seek out this object and return it to him. "What does it look like, sire?"
The king held up his claws to indicate it's size, "It's about this big and made up of small metal rings shaped into a ball-"
Jarek interjected before he could stop himself. "Wait, a hatchling's puzzle ball? Is that what I'm searching for?"
The king's eyes narrowed dangerously at his incredulous tone and he drew himself up like a cobra. "Yes," was all he said. The rest, that if Jarek had a problem with that he could find a nice dark dungeon for him to "explore" instead, was implied. Jarek nodded and said that he'd leave at first light, wishing he'd stayed in the Icefields collecting more Frost Whispers for Kita.

plague_1.png While closing in on the location of King Vakhtang's treasured item, he came across a Plague clan who knew of the old clan and where to search for it. In exchange for information and directions to Vakhtang's former clangrounds, the child Seryeshka would be taken and raised among them. At first Jarek was appalled, then worried that they might be attempting to spread some new disease. At this veiled accusation they merely shrugged; did he want to succeed in his quest or not? Jarek had to trust that the conjured Spring's Breath would keep him safe from whatever the hatchling carried until Birdsong could assess her and ensure she would not endanger the clan.
