History:
(Name) was a friendly hatchling. She would also rush to aid the gatherers that had returned with their haul, or aid the healers in patching up the dragons returning from the coliseum. As she grew up, she tried to learn the art of healing in a way that was more than fetching bandages or holding tools. One day the clan healers took her to a corner and told her that she didn’t have quite the right gifts. Saddened but not disheartened, (Name) searched for another purpose. She tried her hand at gathering, only to be told that the food she had picked was poisonous; she tried digging, only to dig right through and destroy materials that the clan desperately needed; she even tried scavenging, but none of it worked. Then one day she remembered the warriors she had assisted as a hatchling; perhaps that would be her forte!

Approaching Ellesmere and Gabriel, the clan alphas, (Name) asked to be trained in the art of fighting in the Coliseum. Reluctantly, having seen everything else that she had tried and failed, they agreed. Her first training session was amazing! She felt completely at home in her own skin at she scratched and bit at the enemies they found in the fields. She felt strong, she felt useful. (Name) became an expert at holding her pearl in one paw while fighting with the other, until one day they encountered something that (Name) had never seen before. She didn’t have the time to ask before it attacked. She watched one of her friends collapse immediately under the force of the creature’s massive swipe. The other fled, leaving her alone in front of the giant beast. She had gathered all of the breath she could, but before she could even use it, the thing attacked her. A swipe of its giant paw across her face made it’s claws rip through her scales and tear across her eyes.

Everything was red as she roared in agony and fell to the ground. The grass was cold and wet beneath her, her pearl pressed between her front leg and her chest. The world went black slowly and the beast wandered away, contented.

When she woke, the first thing (Name) noticed was the sound of fabric moving, of the clinking of healing tools on glass and—Her eyes flew open, only for the immense pain she remembered to return. It took days, weeks – she didn’t know – until she could finally keep her eyes open for long enough. The world looked… odd. Everything was slightly pink, like the scales of a stained dragon. When the healers finally said she was alright and dismissed her, the first thing (Name) did was find a mirror.

(Name) couldn’t believe what was in front of her. Her eyes… They were completely red, like blood. What colour had her eyes even been before? She’d never paid much attention to it, had thought they would also be that colour. But no, not anymore. All because of the dragon that had abandoned her in the Coliseum.

From that day on, (Name) never trusted another dragon, not like she had before. What if they abandoned her too? What if they caused her a fate worse than the change to her eyes and the slight scarring to her face? No, it would be best not to. So (Name) didn’t.
