“Beautiful girl, you can do hard things.”

Qadira is beautiful and dainty, but she's not to be trifled with.

A mage within her clan, her specialty is magic that is both stunning and effective - her sparkle bombs may light up the night sky with a shower of color, but they're no joke for those on the receiving end. With her small size and sharp wits, she's a formidable opponent... and one you'll never see coming if she doesn't want you to.

The first time she saw Aiden, she was practicing magic in the garden. She'd taken to using the area because it was quiet, serene, out of the way - and because the glitter dropping like snow over the flowers always made her smile. Usually, it was just her and Selene, the clan leader's wife, in the area; but every so often another would pass by, or stop to linger and enjoy the sights and smells, and Qadira came to look forward to dragon-watching among the blooms.

She was still new to the clan, and had not quite familiarized herself with all of her clanmates, but something about Aiden caught her eye immediately. Maybe it was the way he carried himself - smoothly, powerfully like the warrior he was, but with a bit of uncertainty or humility. Maybe it was his stunning coloration, so similar to her own, or the collection of weapons and armor he seemed to carry with such ease.

Whatever it was, once he had caught her eye, she seemed to run into him more and more often, and she soon came to look forward to these chance meetings. She waited awhile, hoping he might realize that she had developed feelings, looking for some sign that he felt the same way - but when nothing happened, she grew impatient, and decided it was time to take matters into her own hands.

"Aiden." She hesitated, waiting until he turned his full attention toward him, trying not to get lost in the violet depths of his eyes. "I... I wanted to tell you something."

"Okay?"

His voice was pleasant but flat, totally unreadable. She hesitated just a moment, feeling a swoop of anxiety, before she carried on.

"So... I really like you. I mean, I enjoy all this time we've spent together lately, and I think you're so handsome and I love how devoted you are to the clan and your training and..."

She realized that she was babbling.

She realized also that he was staring at her. Silent, expression still totally blank, unreadable.

The uneasy pause stretched on, growing more awkward by the minute. Thoughts ran through Qadira's mind, racing to think of anything else she could say - but in a panic, she muttered something incoherent and stumbled away, embarrassed.

Things were awkward around the lair for a while.

Qadira couldn't bear the thought of running into him again - what would she say?! - and she was still terribly embarrassed. Unfortunately, it's a small world, and all of those chance meetings she used to look forward to became agonizing.

But Aiden seemed to become increasingly insistent, and finally, exasperated, she stopped trying to evade him.

"Did you have something to say to me?" She said, aggressively - with anger she didn't know if she really felt, but afraid of being embarrassed again.

He looked taken aback. "I...yes. I mean...I've been trying to talk to you. When you... did you mean it, when you said you liked me?"

"Well I certainly wasn't lying!"

He stared at her, expression dumbfounded. "I didn't think you were, I just... when you said that," he said, carefully, with the tone of someone trying to steer a conversation back to a script, "Did you mean you LIKE me? As in, you want to be my mate?"

"Well of course!"

She blinked. She hadn't meant to be so blunt. The smile that spread across his features wasn't expected, either.

"Oh! Well in that case. I... of course I feel the same way!"

This time it was her turn to stare at him, dumbfounded into silence.

Despite their rocky beginning, their relationship quickly blossomed into one that was calm and loving. He came to love her more than anything (except perhaps being a warrior), and her feelings burned just as strong. Together, she's slowly helping him overcome his fear of the magic he holds and helping him wield it - and she's settled in, finally feeling utterly comfortable within her new home.
