Biography
A I D E N
“Courage, above all things, is the first quality of a warrior.”
The magic burned within him, and its intensity made him afraid... Aiden discovered at a young age that he had an immense amount of magical power - more than he could control. Things would happen near him, without his bidding; outbursts of emotion would cause flares of magic, unwanted and sometimes violent. He came to fear the magic, and struggled to suppress his emotions as well - leading to the serious, unsmiling visage most encounter upon meeting him. Training from Helia, a clan sorceress, helped him to conceal his power, but he still struggles to keep it contained. It's not that he is an unfriendly dragon. Quite the opposite - Aiden has a big heart and a deep commitment to his clan. But he knows also that there are powers within him beyond his control... -- "Adrian... you're a smart guy..." The Imperial lifted a brow at the nocturne's tone, but he said nothing, waiting for Aiden to get around to asking for the advice he was clearly fishing for. "What...do you think it means... if a girl says she likes you... and then starts avoiding you immediately after?" "By 'a girl', I presume you mean Qadira?" "What?" Aiden's eyes grew wide. "How... how could you know that?" "Everyone in the clan knows that she's interested in you," Adrian said, keeping his voice even, but he couldn't hide the twitch of a smile at the corners of his maw. "So she finally got up the courage to confront you about it head on. And then what did you do?" "Nothing! I mean...it came as such a surprise... I just sort of stared at her and then she took off and now I think she's ignoring me... and wait, what do you mean everyone knows?" The Imperial just shook his head. "Aiden, it's a good thing you're handy with a sword, because your head is empty. Do you like her?" Aiden's uneasy foot-shuffling was his only response. "Then go find her and tell her as much." -- It took a while for Aiden to take the Imp's advice. He couldn't quite believe that Qadira would be interested - that ANYONE could be interested - in a simple warrior like himself. He had trained for battle as a way to make himself feel useful, to compensate for the magic within him that he could not reliably wield. He earned his place through hard work, commitment and loyalty, but he certainly didn't think he was anything special. So why would someone as lovely as Qadira possibly think he was worthwhile mate material? He thought perhaps it was all a mistake. As he wrestled with his uncertainty, he kept bumping into her at odd times around the lair. When he was sharpening his weapon collection, he would see her passing; when he left to train in the morning, he would note her nearby. It suddenly seemed like she was everywhere. Finally (and much to the relief of everyone in the clan, who had tired of watching this drag on for so long) Aiden pulled her aside one afternoon, and confessed that he returned her feelings. -- Aiden and Qadira have since settled in as mates, with their feelings growing deeper and broader with the passage of time. He treasures his mate more than anyone in the world - Except perhaps his leader, whom he would follow to death if it was asked. Qadira is helping him with his magic. An accomplished mage herself, she sees in him both power and potential - and she's not afraid to get close and try to help him control what he has feared all his life. Aiden still doesn't smile often... but when he does, it lights up the room.
