The Cloudsong:
Puzzle is the thing on board The Song Bird no one knew they wanted until they had it.

Commissioned in secret by Eyestrain from the rather intimidating Clan Ith (Eyestrain's uttered nary a word about his alleged gander aboard the Fairweather. Tongue-biting is such an oddity for him that his clan suspect he may have purchased the automaton second-hand), Puzzle is the fashioned "daughter" of two other automatons by the names of Winslowe and Ferraksi.

Puzzle inherited little of the usefulness of her "parents" and instead just meanders through the ship like the mechanical hatchling she is. Occasionally she gets stuck in a corner and will stand there, repeatedly clanging her head against the wall in a futile attempt to walk forward, until an actual dragon comes by and turns her around.

Overall, she's cute and fun and doesn't eat any of their food, so this is one of Eyestrain's pranks no one minds. In fact, much to his chagrin, they've named her an honorary crew member.

Coincidentally, her key was first wound on the same day that Leaper hatched and the two have grown up together, after a fashion. Despite her mother's protest, Leaper loves to call Puzzle her sister and is usually not far from the whirring, clicking piece of clockwork. Leaper insists there is more to Puzzle than the rest of the crew realizes.
