Biography

They could have been beautiful. In a different life, a different home, a different type of history, they might have been happy. They could have danced their way through life, dark as sin in coat but light as fire at heart-- But that was not to be. The only thing they have is cold hunger, and even colder despair. A creature like them starts from doing anything for survival, and ends in nothing save for survival. They're no exception. Perhaps it would have been kinder, in the end, were that there was no thought left in their mind. Better to never know anything at all, than to recall a time where you could move and walk and run without the thought of dragon flesh always haunting you, the bitter acidic taste of fear always, always in your mouth - yours, or others'? You can no longer tell. Better to never remember, than to look upon the truly living and envy for what you have irrevocably lost in order to merely keep breathing. They are so, so cold. Understandably melancholy whenever they are of a lucid state, Chiorith wishes they had never fought to survive. This half-life they have cursed themself with, constantly vacillating between empty-eyed shell and solemn individual, is not worth what they had done to their former friends. Nothing would have been, they think. This is the price they pay, they think. Monstrous actions beget a monstrous fate. How could they have ever thought their own survival was of more value than the others? |

They are changed, of course. Even without the affliction they have given themself, paws stained with the blood of a found family and stomach filled with the meat, mind housing the Emperor they could have become if only they were dead-- [but then again, they're not living either, are they?] Even without that, how could anyone come out of a cave-in, the lone survivor, and not be changed? Never mind that for this story, they were the wolf that ate the flock they adopted. Chiorith hopes they aren't going to be the prowling predator for this tale as well. Having joined the Detective's Agency Bureau with the knowledge that the clan resides within fire and flame and the awareness that the guards here could almost certainly stop them should they turn on them in a feral state, they do their best to help this clan that they almost feel like they could be close to. But they are bringers of justice, and Chiorith is the furthest from pure any dragon could be. Stained with sin so deep they're sure their bones have been burnt black with it, they nevertheless stay. Maybe they hope they really will lose control one day and try to eat an ally that will strike them down, if only so they can stop sloughing through the days. Whatever the case, Chiorith is a loyal, if depressing, member of the Bureau - whether they are needed to defend or to spook, they comply without a hint of complaint. And who is surprised that they are so good at scaring other dragons? Whether it is the ice in their lungs and their breath, the dead, hungry look in their bleak eyes even when they're present, or the antlers that hook and jut like knives from their head, one thing can be heard ringing clear even before they actually speak; there is nothing left for them, in this life or the next. |
