Welcome to the Magic Shop

____The location is inconvenient to pick a nice mild word. For a magic shop, you would think wanting customers to reach your storefront would be a goal, but even if you're trying to stay out of reach of all but the determined, building this high up in the canopy is ridiculous. The view went from stunning to dizzying a few levels ago, and even the faes disdain building this high up in the massive trees of the Wild.

____Finally you arrive at the shop itself. The doorway is large enough to admit all but the largest imperials, and there are several doors of descending size within the door for various sized customers. Surprisingly, the building is not made entirely of wood like most other structures in the canopy, but features a low stone facade along the front, and a decent amount of metalworking along the small windows, the doors, and in the lamps out front. The scalloped trim is painted an obscene shade purple? pink? It's hard to tell with the lighting.

____Entering the shop is like being transported. Outside noises are muffled by large, rich tapestries of both dragon and beastclan origin, some abstract, some depicting historical scenes. The floor plan of the shop is labyrinthine, mismatched shelving units are turned at peculiar angles so there's no one path from the door to the counter.

____Picking a route at random, you wind through the shop's bizarre clutter. A black shelving unit is dedicated entirely to white chess pieces, carefully lined up and sorted by type. A White shelving unit next to it is sorted similarly but with black pieces instead. There's a shelf extending to the ceiling and hexagon in shape with fossils and stones in the three facets you can see. At eye level is the largest, most complete fossilized fish you've ever seen. Another shelf holds bones, and as you pass a set of twitching leg bones spasms, startling you and sending a cascade of sparrow skulls to the floor.

____You stumble abruptly out of the maze after rounding a collection of pottery fragments, surprised to find yourself being watched. Haunting Houndskulls aren't that common, and this is the first you've seen up close in person. It's been cleverly placed on the counter so anyone who approaches is under scrutiny. Actually, it's unnerving.

____Stepping away from the obviously unmanned counter, a voice cheerfully calls out to you "Good day!" Whirling, you see the shop's proprietor up high apparently also watching you, and has finally determined you're worth his time. "Bet you weren't expecting me here." he grins, his sharp teeth and wide smile remind you of some felines you've seen.

____You're not given a chance to speak before he leaps from his perch and onto the counter top, slapping the houndskull out of sight with his tail. It thumps dully on the floor as he says "Now that you've made the arduous journey up here, and you've had a chance to look around, I offer a variety of items and services." He leans forward his tone conspiratorial, "You seem like a services type of person. Have you come to have your fortune read?"

____He waits patiently for your reply.

____To his left is velvet bag. He notices your gaze on it and grasps it in a back foot, passes it to a front, and opens the draw string. Out spill two six sided dice into his palm, the markings on each face unknown, but corresponding to the flights. Each die has three faces in one color, and three faces in another. "They're quite lovely." He rolls the dice in his palm. "You don't find items like this at all, one of a kind." His eyes unfocus as he looks that them, no long seeing them, but Seeing beyond them.

____Snapping out of the trance, he looks back at you. "Astragalomancy is my specialty. Got the love for dice from my dear mum. The dice get cast at a mat which has circles for the past, present, and the future on it. Depending on where and sometimes how the dice land, I can interpret what will be." He slips the dice back into the bag. "These are great for a general grasp of events. Nothing specific, just an idea of where you'll go."

____His right paw rests where the skull used to be. You notice that there's a deck of cards there. When did those get there? The counter was empty. His claw ruffles the corner of the deck, making the cards slap together with their distinct sound. "Is tarot your style?" He watches your face, gaze intense. "This is the trickster deck, it's the only deck available, thanks to our lady Shadowbinder. Look at these."

____Leaning in, your marvel at the metallic sheen as he rotates the card in the light. Even after it passes back into the shade under his body, the light lingers, a telling arcane quality to the deck. The few faces you see are familiar, you recognize them from the runestone game that's so popular these days. He straightens the deck. "Straight forward three card draw: past, present, future. These are good for specifics, but remember, it is the trickster's deck. They may have something else in mind to say."
