"Academics prepare for peace.
Maneuvers prepare for war." - Aged Tome of Truths Lore of Lightgems An Official Light Flight Subspecies Designed by Oriel; Hatched by Afar Goldenrod (True) Lightgem of the Truthsayer Line "Lightgems are among the most flashy of all Light subspecies, immediately identified by their pale faceted wings and the golden highlights that mark their bodies. The ancestors of these dragons were a phenomenon unique to Light Flight territory. Legends speak of great orators and clan leaders who drew on the magic of the fractured Pillar to discern truths from lies. Still others were said to possess near perfect memories and to have passed down the first oral histories." The reality behind the legend is that the delicate golden tracery and faceted wings act as a biological extension of the Lightgem nervous system. What other subspecies might use for camouflage or display has been adapted to an extraordinary degree in these dragons as a secondary electrical network used in the creation and maintenance of learned knowledge or behavior. The facets of the wing surface, connected to the rest of the body via sensory channels which manifest as characteristic golden highlights in the limbs and digits, reinforce muscle movement and lower the time it takes for these dragons to master any given skill. Tough crystalline skin and wing membranes protect these highly developed neural pathways from damage or exposure to the elements. XYZ dragons with a visible smoke tertiary on the wings are strongly preferred. The golden banding is a key subspecies component. |

Namesake
Named for Janus, the ancient Roman god of beginnings, transitions, time, gates, passages and endings. He presided over the beginning and ending of conflict, hence war and peace. A fitting name for the first sire of a new line of Lightgem Imperials.

5/12/16: "What is a Prime of War & Peace?" they ask. Reply: It is one thing for a Counsel sitting on cushions to debate and decide for peace or war, and quite another to strive, sweat, prepare and act in accordance. It is my duty to anticipate, make provisions, fortify, and smooth the way to wage peace or war. BSJ 2021 - Head with Netcha and Errai out to Emperor's Wake “So. You lot are the ones brave enough to embark to the region we like to call Emperor’s Wake. Or maybe you just want to catch a glimpse of Luminax. I will remind you, the area of Emperor’s Wake remains highly dangerous even without Luminax’s presence. Sinkholes and unstable structures are peppered throughout, ready to collapse at a moments notice. There have also been recent centaur conflicts caused by Luminax’s rampage through several centaur abodes.” |
