Sylphide, who is not a fighter herself, but believes the clan's leader has let them become complacent, they hadn't conquered any new territory, or expanded in any meaningful way for a long time. Sylphide believed this needed to be changed, and she wanted to use Rubalina to influence the clan's direction, for the leader, a fearsome warrior herself, would only listen to another strong dragon. An alternate plan was to simply overthrow the current leaders.

Sylphide constantly pushed Rubalina to fight and be ruthless, like herself. But Rubalina also loved her, and did what she could to please her and make her happy. She didn't realize that Sylphide was manipulating her all along. Only when she found out Sylphide was cheating on her with another dragon did Rubalina start to doubt her. But she couldn't leave her. Only when Sylphide's other lover took pity on her and told her of her hidden motives to increase her status in the clan that Rubalina truly resented her. With support from her friends, and a new devotion to the Lightweaver, Rubalina finally found the strength to leave Sylphide. She hasn't forgiven her for the way she treated her for so long, and it's unlikely she will. She's still learning how to get by without her, but her friends Iphigenia and Europa help. She can hardly admit it to herself, but she's lonely, and given the chance, would claw her way back into Rubalina's life.

Sylphide was also left by her other lover for another Imp, and she's furious with both him and Rubalina. For now, her plans haven't been revealed to anyone important, so Sylphide remains a member of the clan. Cyno isn't cruel, he doesn't want to endanger Sylphide's standing in the clan, and with her breakup with Rubalina, he believed her plans to be foiled.
That didn't stop Sylphide though. The influx of oddballs from all walks of life to the rainforest clan gave her new opportunities; and yet, she turned her attention to Elyssa. While not a warrior, Elyssa was one of the first members of the clan. She's a trusted adviser and educated Arcane scientist. Sylphide was growing desperate, not from real need to achieve any goal, but to give herself a sense of security in herself after what she perceives as only failure.
Elyssa knew something was up with Sylphide, and quickly broke off what was only a friendship between them.
