Carnaval Tulip

Perhaps a Plague dragon as a farmer strikes many as strange - but that is not as strange as the sheer number of Carnaval Tulips in the market. What gives them their beautiful markings eventually causes them to cease flowering and die. So why are these tulips so plentiful?

The answer lies in the resourceful Plague dragons. Sowing healthy bulbs downwind of the bubbling Wyrmwound, they wait for the plants to flower. Most never do; unable to tolerate the hostile environment, the tulip bulbs die before the sprout breaks free of the soil. Others wither and die. The surviving few remain stunted or hilariously too tall, caving under their own weight, or gnarled. But the viruses of the Wyrmwound grant a lucky few the correct mutation to streak their white petals red. (Or is it red petals white? Only the Plaguebringer and Gladekeeper know.)

Atlas, before he called himself such, was once one of these flower farmers. He had fallen in love at first sight with the blooms that he matched: a blank background with wisps of red. Yet the farming's unreliability and inefficiency disheartened him. So he bid his home farewell and set off on a quest for knowledge: why were all Carnaval Tulips doomed to unhealthiness? How could one efficiently cultivate these wondrous plants?

His quest took him from the Southern Icefield to Dragonhome, from Sunbeam Ruins to Starfall Isles. Along the way, he gained much knowledge, a new name - for he has traveled the atlas - and a reputation for his reliability with the ladies. eyebrow waggle

Fortunately or unfortunately, his current fellow researcher Datura does not fall for his charms. They enjoy each other's friendship and expertise - Datura in botany, foraging, and plant storage knowledge and Atlas in cultivation, agriculture, and plant husbandry. Together and with the generous support of clan and scientific and agricultural communities all over Sornieth, Atlas and Datura hope their research will open up new opportunities in plant pathology and strengthen ties between Plague and Nature, as well as with the other Flights.
