H I S T O R Y

A singular dragon egg, looked after by all. Whispers circled that such an egg couldn't hatch. There was no possible way. It hadn't been warmed for months; the dragon inside was surely dead. The Light-Touched Outpost planned to give it a proper burial after a week. That just showed how wrong they all were. Within days of finding the egg, it split down the middle. It seemed to defy the Light magic around it, as the dragon inside was of Shadow, through and through. Her spirit was a gentle one.

She became a clan favorite with her quiet smiles and silent gestures. Everyone took care of her, feeding the young dragon when she was hungry, and comforting her when she cried. So, it is only natural that the whole clan despaired when they found out she was mute.
Shade has no voice, but knows how to convey her emotions through sign. She and Arlo are often found together, sharing a meaningful, but silent, conversation. Her curse does not bother her, and she doesn't let it get in the way of her every day life. She found that she had talent in creating little toys and dolls made of stone. She used her sharp claws to carve these knickknacks, and gave them to the children of the clan. This was the beginning of her architectural career.

She became more invested in her work, creating most of the structures seen within the clan today. She shares her cave with others, and the ones she lives with are very blessed. Statues loom from the walls, carved straight from the very rock that makes up the area. The floor has been pounded into smooth sand, and tiny holes in the ceiling allow light, but can be patched up with banana leaves that rest in a pile shuffled into a corner, replenished weekly. At night, she rests outside of the cave, by a rock worn smooth by years of reclining on it. Shade watches the night as an unofficial watchman.

One day, a letter appeared at her cave. She opened it curiously. It was a letter from the Shadowbinder herself, claiming that she needed her amazing skills in building structures. She was ecstatic that the god had noticed her, and accepted. The Shadow deity was kind to her. She allowed Shade to have her own immense room, and as many resources as she needed to build whatever it was she was creating. She had teams of dragons waiting on her sign to do whatever she said. She was at the pinnacle of her life. Yet... she was unhappy. Something was missing. A shred of light, perhaps. She resigned from her job, and returned to the Light-Touched Outpost after years of being away. She was sad to see that many of the dragons she had known as a child were gone, having moved onto bigger and better things. However, there were new faces for her to introduce herself to, providing that they were acquainted with her language of hands.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Shade is a kind dragon who lends a helping hand wherever she can. She gets dirty, works hard, and pours everything she has into her work. She doesn't let any barrier sway her, even the language one. She always finds a way.

Friendliness blossoms underneath her scales. She is warm to those she meets, and a little boisterous, despite having no voice. She always seems to fill a room with her unspoken words and silent peals of laughter. She seems to want to make up her years serving the Shadowbinder to those she knew before her time served for the deity. Shade spends time with dragons as much as she can. She gives gifts to the younger ones in the clan, and helps design caves with the older dragons of the clan.

She loves to spend time in the library. It is the one place she can go and feels like she's just like everyone else. No one speaks in the building, for even a hushed whisper reverberates around the arched ceiling. Everyone inside uses sign if they need to talk to another, worried that they will shatter the peace of others. She never lets anyone know just how much she loves spending time in that building. It embarrasses her slightly to be so fond of a building she created.

Shade has an affinity for living things. She incorporates them into her buildings, often decorating her rooms with hallowed ivy and lighting them with glowslugs. Unfortunately, some dragons have begun eating her decorations. She is trying to pull together a "decoration patrol," where a handful of dragons would guard the food-related decorations. However, no one seems to want a job that consists of staring at a wall for hours. Shade can't imagine why.
