For several weeks, the dragons in charge of the island's fruit trees had been wondering who or what was eating their crop. Over the past couple of months they had noticed their produce being stolen and bite marks appearing in fruit on the trees. However, they never spotted any theft during the day, and the marks on the fruit were too big to have been made by any of the typical pests. They were baffled.

The orchardists decided to stay up one night, in order to find out what was going on. It was a particularly dark and cold evening and they wondered if anything was even going to show up under these conditions. However, mid-discussion, a rustle was heard. Their hearts becan to race. A pair of dragons, clutching a net between them, crept slowly to where the sound was coming from. Something BIG was in one of the mango trees. Through silent gesture, they counted to three and threw the net onto the creature. A screech was heard as it was caught and tumbled out of the tree. They were not prepared for what they found...

The thief was hauled in front of Gemini and Artemis. The leaders were aware of the disappearing fruit and had wanted the offending creatures removed. However, no one expected that the thief would be a dragon, let alone a Nocturne! None of them had ever heard of a Nocturne that eats fruit. To make matters even weirder, the dragon had no grasp of language. She was only able to hiss and growl. They had absolutely no idea what to do with the culprit.

The leaders requested that the dragon was held at The Estate until they had made a decision on her fate. As the Nocturne could not understand anything said to her, Artemis didn't think imprisonment would work. She believed it wasn't much of a punishment if the dragon could not comprehend why it was locked up. Instead, the Mirror favoured banishment to Arcane (as the Nocturne had pink eyes) or exaltation. She wondered if the Gladekeeper would be able to make use of the feral dragon. Gemini thought both of those options were reasonable, but still felt sorry for the thief. He wondered if she could pay back her debts, so to speak, by working on the fruit trees. Artemis thought he was crazy.

"She'll eat all of the crop again!" Artemis barked. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.

"But we have no idea what happened to this poor dragon before she arrived here," Gemini said calmly. "Maybe she can understand us? She could just be traumatised. Let's give her a chance."

Artemis sighed. She admired Gemini's kindness, even though she sometimes thought it was a weakness. She could tell that he was not going to back down on this, and agreed to his plan. They decided to name the Nocturne after the fruit she appeared to love most - Mango.

The clan chiefs sent Mango to Kalani, The Estate's teacher. She was to spend a month with her before learning how to take care of the orchards. It became evident that her lack of comprehension was merely due to her age - despite her large size, Mango was still a very young dragon. She learnt quickly and Kalani enjoyed teaching her. However, it sadly seemed that she was always going to be mute. The Wildclaw tried desperately to get her to speak, but Mango couldn't manage to form any sounds that even resembled Draconic. She became frustrated with the lessons. Her teacher unwillingly gave up, and instead continued to develop only her writing skill and general knowledge.

After the month was up, Mango began to learn how to be an orchardist. She appeared to enjoy it, and worked hard. It seemed she realised that she was very fortunate to be allowed to live on the island. Once she had been working for a while, it was decided that she deserved some payment for her work. Her crime had been written off. Instead of paying her in treasure, however, at the end of each week she was allowed to collect a small basket of fruit to eat. To Mango, this was absolute bliss.
