Nikita has always been a little... off. Her illusions, while beautiful, always seem to have hints of something terrifying. Her actions, while seemingly good-hearted, seem to have something more sinister happen. Although she is cheerful, there's always something slightly off about her. Those who can hear her soulsong hear a music not out of place in a child's room, but just slightly discordant.

Nikita holds up a better facade than Bregalad. Nobody just meeting her would guess her true nature. They would keep talking, keep interacting with the oddly cheerful Pearlcatcher, clueless as their hatchlings and eggs disappeared to places unknown, clueless, that is, until she comes in the night and steals them away as well. Those watching from afar would have months before falling prey. In that time, they might notice how her movements are just a bit too fast and precisely-aimed, her shows had glints of enchantment unrelated to illusion, and she never implied that anyone would not come to a future show.

If her victims were a bit more observant, they would notice. If they paid attention to the weave of her magic, they would notice the compulsions, the magic that stuck to them, almost unnoticeable, and dragged them back again and again and again. They might notice the faint residue of a more twisted type of magic. They might notice that same magic lingering in the places their children were taken from. But they never did. They kept falling victim to the same tricks over and over again. They kept crying that their hatchlings were stolen without a trace of a clawprint to track. They never connected the disappearances to the illusionist and her show.

They were fools. They paid the price.

Nikita is quite the trickster! She loves showing off her illusions and magic in exchange for treasure. However, the Trickmurk Circus is her favorite night of the year. She roams and roams the Tangled Wood, celebrating the night gleefully. However, the celebration isn't even the best part of the night; legend has it that the Trickmurk Circus draws lost hatchlings to the Tangled Wood. Nikita seeks out hatchlings and asks, "Hoo hoo! Hello, child! Would you like to see a trick?" Of course, that trick involves making the hatchlings... disappear. Either she takes them to the Clan, or, on the very night of the Shadow Flight, sacrifices them to the Shadowbinder. It's quite an eventful night for Nikita, yes it is!

Nikita's familiar acts as her assistant in her show and in her sacrificial rituals. It is her owlcat who stalks hatchlings lost in the woods, and often goes unnoticed in the background. It really is an indispensable asset for Nikita, as well as being the only creature she is truly affectionate towards.
