B I O G R A P H Y

______ Everyone knows Sham's name isn't Sham. But no one can find any trace of Sham's past, no family to ask for a real name. So Sham it is. Sham will tell a different story about her past to each that asks her. She (presumably) makes her living as a fortuneteller and illusionist, but she is never observed doing these things with consistency. Her only companions are a firefly-like fae creature and a goblin that lurks in the shadows. She travels across Sornieth, and it is unknown if she has home or clan in Shadow.

______ The truth about Sham is that she is a spy for the Shadowbinder. Sham's ability to convincingly perform as a mere traveling con artist and magician is what caught the dark eye of the Shadowbinder, and led to the deity herself bestowing on her a blessing and a mission. Sham, with the Shadowbinder's goblin, reports everything of note to her patron, wandering the land in search of anything worth knowing. As the Lightweaver's faithful would say, "knowledge is power."

In recent years, Sham had more or less taken up residence back home in the Tangled Wood. She met a young Nocturne male named Hawksong. He wanted to be a warrior, and passionately practiced daily while crafting himself a set of spiked armor. Sham found herself comforted by his simplicity and earnestness, and soon enough they became mates. But their lives together were shaken when the ancient children of the dragon gods began to re-awaken. In a raid on a Beastclan encampment, Hawksong stole a scroll stolen from the Gaolers. Not knowing the nature of the scroll, Hawksong read it and was transformed into the ancient breed. Anguished, Sham couldn't help but wonder if this was punishment from the Shadowbinder for allowing herself to be distracted from her mission.

One day, while Sham was stalking through the woods, she witnessed a confrontation between a harpy, a Nocturne, and a Gaoler from Light. As Sham eavesdropped on the conversation, she quickly realized that the Gaoler's words were at least worth investigating. Slipping through the shadows, Sham followed the Gaoler and the harpy into Light territory.
