“May you always have walls for the winds, a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire, laughter to cheer you, those you love near you, and all your heart might desire.”
Seamus was always rummaging around for things it seemed. He and his pet rabbit Jack, it was an odd match or sure. But Jack could get into the places that he could not. Except for today. He sat there, his tail wrapped protectively around his pearl. Jack was sitting, with great balance, on top of Seamus' head. They stared over the frozen ice fields. They seemed to give a long sigh in unison. To put it simply they were bored. They had spent all their lives in the Icewarden's domain and has explored almost every inch of it, bringing back various trinkets, food, and materials. They longed for adventure: new locals, and new friends to meet. Something new and fresh. Another long drawn out sigh. “Seamus.” A voice called from behind him. “I have some good news.” He turned to see Zakaria sitting behind him. “It's been arranged for you to go to a new clan. I know you've been unhappy here so I hope you can find new adventure abroad.” The arrangement turned out not a permanent one, as much as he'd hoped it might. The clan that was as eager for adventure as he was quite literally stuck in the bogs, not going anywhere anytime soon. Adventure was a little bit out of the question for them. With apologies to spare, the regiment leader who'd hosted him - Seinrei - gave him the needed supplies for a longer trip, a spiritually-imbued silver pendant to keep or sell should he need to, and a scroll with directions to where he had seen a good outcome for the lad, the promise of a good prosperous adventure in the soothsayer's words, Seamus's excitement kindled once more. A blind bound in what seemed the right direction, and Seamus was off, into the sky above the murky shadows and into the air, headed along the cool currents and updrafts, keeping watch for the landmarks detailed in the scroll. Each night was spent alone with Jack, but unafraid, truly an adventure in its own right, the scenery changing drastically with each passing day. The day came when he ran into another, a dragon like him, who belonged to a clan that welcomed him into their fold after such a long journey, the scroll with its directions forgotten, even if he had never fully followed where they pointed. Perhaps, he was never meant to. |
